Golden lets No D go, and agrees to hire a new DC and give him complete autonomy? (Disclosure: I don't think AG does this without a ton of pressure from those who matter; I also think No D may resign out of loyalty to his friend. He can't feel good about putting his friend in this terrible position).

I like Golden, and I bet the people with decision-making authority do too (the AD, the President and the BOT). They (and I) appreciate him navigating the team through the Shapiro mess, which cannot be diminished. No one likes the results on the field. Some care more than others, and some are more willing than others to do something about it. Getting a new DC in here would probably satisfy enough people to let AG keep his job, at least for another year. Before this week, I think that would make me happy too.

But the other day we had these comments from AG with him describing DP being 6 yards deep vs 7-8 yards deep that the screenshots show. He said he's not supposed to be that deep. I'm just throwing this out there: Is it possible that AG doesn't know exactly what No D is doing? I fully believe AG has blessed the defensive schemes, and No D is running AG's defense, but is it possible that what we call his stubbornness is really him not knowing exactly what's happening? Is it possible that he sees the screenshots and has a WTF moment himself? The head coach has a lot to do and he has to delegate, and it is conceivable that AG trusts No D a little too much, and that the bulk of the blame lies with No D.

So, getting rid of No D and getting a new DC with autonomy could fix this mess. It keeps AG in the fold so as not to destroy the 4 years of relationship and community building AG has done with the local high schools (which should only get better with Ice on board). And I say "should" because I do think stud defensive players are seeing the garbage and they're going elsewhere, so maybe it doesn't matter as long as AG is the coach. Would kids go elsewhere if there were a proven commodity at DC at UM? Someone with a reputation of letting players play, and kicking a lot of ***? The DC replacement could be spun in a way in the press to convince everyone that things are changing for the better at UM. AG could admit the style he's used doesn't fit the UM style of doing things so he changed it.

So we've had a lot of talk about who AG's replacement should be. What about No D's replacement, if that's the way this thing goes down? Could UM pay Bud Foster $1 million? Would that make a difference? Who else?

What if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. Golden is both the puppet master and Pinocchio. Rhymes with Dorito & gotta go.

OPs point is what if Al decided to change "his" defense.

I for one would give him more time if this decision was made but not much more. Would also depend on who the coordinator was.

He blamed night games for losses...

He does not have the mentality to win here. Ever.

too much pride for him to completely give up control of the defensive side of the ball to someone more competent i cant see it happening this guy really trusts and believes in this scheme for some reason, and thats fine butch davis will have some nice pieces to work with

Regardless of the awful defensive scheme, the team takes its mentality from the head coach. In this case, they get their softness from him.

I'm sure he has the support of the people who had no idea where he was for a full weekend when he was off in State College, PA interviewing for a job that eventually went to a guy who covered up a rape at his previous school. Get that fat bag of **** out of my site and away from my team

I would not trust him to do that. He's had four years of failure with this passive defensive philosophy. This is what Al is as a coach. We don't force errors on the opponents offense, we wait for them to happen. He does not have an aggressive mindset. IMO, that's not going to change - and I don't want to wait around long enough "just in case".

Butch as DC solves a lot of Al's problems. Recruiting takes off like rocket. Defense gets better or Al can say "See". Fans quiet down for a few games. Look most people agree that Al is good guy, but that image is dying quickly as he desperation to defend his pride and joy defense takes over. By the time he leaves nobody will have a good word to say about him. He should have fired Mark and hired Butch last year. My Lord, hi hired Mario. The downside is having your replacement on staff, but what Butch brings outweighs that. If defense improved, Al has more security. Once Butch is working again, another school will snatch him up. They are just all scared of the ncaa thing. Al has a way out but pride will not let him take it.

The biggest question here is - will Al Golden go down with his proverbial ship? (The defense.) IMO, it's going to come down to how badly Golden wants to remain the head coach at Miami.

Its his defense, if he ever questioned it he probably would have changed it about 2 seasons ago, he aint changing sh¡t

Same god **** thread made every day. Do us a favor OP and write this bull**** in one of those. Al is the god **** problem. Not Doornoorfroi

Your in fantasy land if you think that Butch would ever come in to be second fiddle to that broken chorus of excuses that Al G. has become. Butch sees what is going on and will abide his time till there is a real chance for him to to retain what is rightfully his.......

Butch has been around this program for 30 years and I would argue that NOBODY knows what it takes to win here more than him.......

This. Why in the fck would Butch ever come here to play co-pilot to this bungling idiot?!?!?!?! Really?!?!?!?!?!?!? LULZ.

Butch may do that. If they turn it around he gets the credit. If not, he's the HC.

You have to cut the head off of this chicken little... Golden needs to go.
