I was on cloud 9 that Sunday that Richt resigned. Not that it matters now, but if Richt had stayed it would've been for the best. Diaz would be at Temple along with Banda and some of the other underqualified defensive assistants. Richt would likely have hired an offensive coordinator that would've brought in the spread along with a defensive coordinator that surely would've been more qualified than Baker. Depressing...just feels like we are cursed right now with no light at the end of the tunnel

Thomas Brown would still be OC in title only with Richt calling the plays. On the defensive side Richt had already named Banda and Patke co-defensive coordinators.

As bad as it seems now, it would've been worse if Richt stayed. Hopefully Diaz will have the guts to make changes quickly if some of his hires don't pan out.

Except Richt had Mark Helfrich in his office and decided he & Brown & Jon & Dugs we good enough. Thats the move that sealed our fate. He didnt even have to fire anyone, we had an open spot for an 11th coach. Richt put his desire to call plays ahead of Miami football. And then at the end of his 3rd season he was given that opportunity again, and he walked away.

Rick calling plays (and having his son on staff) were essential reasons to him even taking another job post Jaw-ja. He wasn't going to hire a real OC and just be the CEO again and he wasn't going to can Jon. So he did the honorable thing and exited the way he did.

And ultimately, that decision cost his son a career in college football.

Quite possibly true but one could also make the case that Jon taking a job from/with dad actually cost him the career (if he ever deserved one). He should've left the Bills gig he had and taken a job somewhere else in college football on his own. I'm sure Rick's influence would've opened up some doors on that front.
