Mods, no more Butch threads/posts. Please lock this thread. We have now discussed everything about this subject, including Butch’s hemorrhoids. It’s been nearly 2 decades since he was here, for Godsakes! We need to move on.
I think temper tantrums by Botch fans are rather fun to observe..

No, the big difference is Butch actually got broke off by Cleveland after He left UM, while Howard got fired before He even coached a down for the Spirit Of Miami.

Take away Howard's record at UM and He has a losing record as a College HC, can't say the same about Butch.

Howard won 1 National Championship as HC at The U.
Paul Davis won 0 National Championships as HC at The U.

Howard left UM after fulfilling his goal of winning a NC at Miami.
Paul Davis quit UM with that goal his for the taking. I could care less whose story you believe as to why he left.

Howard was not fired by the Miami USFL franchise. The franchise never materialized as the financial backing fell apart.
Paul Davis was fired by the Cleveland Browns.

And both stated leaving Miami was a decision they regret.

NOTE: I am a fan of what Butch accomplished at The U. Despite what some fans may think, few coaches could have led the program through the NCAA sanctions and assembled the roster he left.

LOL...buddy makin' $h!t up:

He coached Miami to a National Championship in 1983, defeating Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Following the season, Schnellenberger departed for the USFL, where he was to become part-owner, general manager and head coach of The Spirit Of Miami of the USFL—a relocated Washingon Federals franchise. In August, however, the USFL announced that it would shift to a fall schedule. The owner-to-be for the Federals backed out of the deal, knowing he could not hope to compete head-to-head with the Miami Dolphins.

A new backer moved the team to Orlando as the Renegades and decided not to retain Schnellenberger.

Schnellenberger was not for fired for poor job performance as HC. This was a business deal falling through, before it started.

Davis was fired by Browns ownership due to his losing record.

Bottomli

Stop it....Recruits were NOT lining up at UM after 94....Erickson was a NOTORIOUSLY terrible recruiter....Said he didn't like it many times.....

Erickson may have not liked it, but recruits had a healthy respect for the Miami program, most of them had grown up with Miami being a DOMINANT program. A coach with any drive to recruit should have been able to leverage some of those feelings, and relationships. You were limited by numbers, but it wasn't like But hey, let's continue to act like Butch inherited a program with absolutely nothing. It was awful when he took over, there's no need to exaggerate it.

I've often wondered why Erickson never got another shot at a big name program. Not only did he win two natties, but he also made Oregon State competitive. Sure he was shady and the Pell Grant scandal stung but he did his time and would have been fine at a mid tier SEC program since the SEC would cover up everything.

You can spin it any way you want, but "decided not to retain" means fired.

No, not really.

Schnelleneberger’s deal was with Sherwood Weiser. Howard was to be part-owner, GM, and HC. When the USFL elected to play a fall schedule Weiser bailed. He and Howard parted ways. There were lawsuits and settlement involved, of course.

The Washington Federals were purchased by an Orlando group headed by Don Dizney and became the Orlando Renegades. Dizney made an effort to hire Schnellenberger, who appeared at one point on the verge of accepting. However, he ultimately declined.

Howard accepted the HC position at Louisville.

His Offensive gameplan vs Bama in the 93 NC was ***.....A One Back or none Backfield....with a So-So Off line....against 2 Bama DL AAs (Curry and Copeland) and your protection for Torretta was a pourous OL....and a 160lb soaking wet RB Conley????....smh

Erickson rejected USC before the Trojans hired their fourth option to replace Paul Hackett, a former NFL HC named Pete Carroll. Mike Riley also turned down USC. I’d say everything worked out for the Trojans. Carroll had a great run.

FWIW, the Dallas Cowboys have one playoff win since the last of JJ's players left Dallas...
How Ironic......After JJs kids left UM at end of 92.....Recruiting fell Drastically....Sure we got a couple of Gems....But its a known fact Erickson HATED recruiting....

Butch was right in that first article...Why TF should He have had to pay back **** near His entire salary if He would've left after 01'? No coach that was in demand as Butch was would've taken that $h!tty offer.

Also, Butch turned Cleveland down twice...once in 98', and in January of 01' before UM tried em' with that bull$h!t *** buyout clause.

He also turned down the Texans & Alabama jobs.

If turning down more lucrative jobs while coaching in the midst of some of the worse sanctions in NCAA history isn't loyal, then I don't know what to tell ya'!
Yep. UM basically pushed Butch out, then acted shocked when he left. Then they hire three straight scrubs with the money they saved from giving Butch the raise he deserved. Man

On a side note, we lost Howard because he was promised more money which I believe he desperately needed for a sick child.

In both cases UM wouldn't pay them what they were worth.

Butch Davis is a football God!

Threads like this are better than viagra.

I guarantee you were a "Fire Butch Davis" kinda guy after going 5-6 in year 3. **** the 1999 team was way more talented than the 2017 team and they lost to East Carolina and got housed at Va Tech. There's no way that someone like you who ******* about everything would be calling the coach of that team a football god.
