What happened to our screen game?

The mob is fickle, i remember when people were complaining he ran to many screens, we won the game people, relax.

You realize there is a middle ground right? Last year I understood why we only ran screens. It was because the QB couldn't hit targets further then 3 yards away and even then the player needed to be wide open. This was the perfect option for him. However, now we never run them and it would help the OL.

Some screen passes to Jordan (similar to what FSU did with McKitty) would be amazing. Can't believe FSU actually used their TE for once.

Just watched replay for fourth time. For some reason Richt kept leaving Jordan 1 on 1 with Burns. Wasnt chipping (which would be necessary as Burns is tough for a regular OLineman to block) , but straight up pass blocking by himself. Jordan had no chance and Burns was constantly in the backfield. I think a screen would have led to a pick 6 as Perry would have had no chance to throw over the line as he was backpedaling for his life.
You can't be serious man. Name me 5 plays where this actually happened. Maybe the 1 screen burns blew up, but we didn't "Keep" leaving Jordan blocking burns 1 on 1. We chipped burn probably 10-15 times that game.

We had a HUGE one on Saturday that helped us ice the game though. Brevin got us 10 on a 3rd and 11 and it allowed us to go for it on 4th down with Choc.

It was called at least twice I believe during game. There was the time the pass got batted and there was another time where Perry had to eat the ball, if I’m not mistaken. I believe there was a third time as well.

Most teams when they call the screen pass, rarely call more than two or three times a game.

I do believe it will help, but it has to be executed to perfection. There’s a fine line between getting your quarterback murked, and successfully completing the play.

Don’t they mostly just have to let the DL run by them?
Yes and no.. first they let the DL get through but then they gotta run out and help seal a path for the receiver... That requires synchronized execution and physical effort (the latter of which matters or doesn't matter depending on how deep you are at OL)

Exactly, letting them just run by you without executing the play the way it supposed to be executed is a good way to get your quarterback killed.

What do you mean name five plays? How exactly do you expect me to do that? Ok I'll give it a shot:

1. Fluffy
2. Scuba Steve
3. Christos
4. Juan de Fuca
5. Aristotle

**** mane those are plays! Those are names, characters, or great philosophers. You would've gotten credit had you said,
Macbeth
Othello
Cats
Hamilton
Oklahoma

Or actually gave a series, time in the game, situation that backs up your stance we "Kept" leaving Jordan to block Burns 1 on 1

LOL

There's also a little bit of trickery involved. The OL has to sell it to the defense.. otherwise your play will be dead at best or you will turn the ball over at worst.

I'll watch again and take notes on who is blocking whom. Whether it was Jordan or the offensive tackles, IMO Burns was blowing up plays too easily for the screen to work. He almost had a pick 6 on one attempt at a bubble screen.

The one "advantage " Miami might have with screens is that defensive linemen can usually sniff out a screen when they beat the OL too easily, but since the DL mauled the OL and absolutely dominated the LOS, they might not be able to tell the difference as they run unabated to the qb.

Nah Im sure that traitor McKitty who should have come here saw how Jordan was getting crazy good burn and even made the big play over the top to put us in the lead there in the 4th..

Im sure he thought to himself that could have been me... and I should be the next TE to get drafted in a row

Was one of the most effective parts of our offense last season, seemingly has disappeared this season. Particularly the bubble screen, Herndon was a beast as the receiver, we definitely the athletes to do it, Wiggins, Cager, Langham blocking and whoever receiving.
A middle screen or shovel pass to a TE or RB would also be nice to see

Think about this, not only last year, but with kaaya too, but you guys have to evaluate the real reason, when you got suspect tackles, a brand new qb, and than the more important issue Ahmon being out hurt our blocking, the group thats in place right now at receiver are not on the blocking level of the last 2 yrs, they up and coming but cager and langham will never be confused as being good blockers, wiggins is on the come up, harley is the best right, after that its jt4, so with that being said, should coach richt call a screen and throw it to cager or langhan and let harley & jt4 block for them.

Screen to Homer. Screen to DJ would be fine. Screen to Pope could be great. Getting a screen to JT or Harley though could be lethal.

Also, throwing screens is not one of perry's strong points right now, it sounds good, this iis not a screen team right now, than you gotta lookk at how barnett aligns his defense up, 8 men around the line of scrimmage on almost every snap, the screen game against that is low percentage. People acting like coach richt came in and the first 2yrs he screening, now all of a sudden yall thinkk he forgot, lol!

Perry has been leading his receivers much better with the screens than Malik did. We have all of the same receivers as last year except Berrios and we did great with the screens last year.

Richt forgets that it's in the play book durong games.

nah...

FSU baited us on the bubbles severals times two seasons ago. Knowing Richt takes what the defense gives, they played off overage and then crashed the bubble instead of bailing. Since then, I've seen other teams bait us as well, but if we get some tempo rolling and people lose their discipline i'm sure he'll call them again.

F the screens. I wanna see more 2 TEs max protect and go deep. That's one thing i will give Coley credit for, we always lit up FSU. If we had a D we would never have lost 7 in a row
