What Does $4 mil Really Mean?

Let's say it's true that we're "willing" to spend $4 mil per year on a new head coach. What does that actual figure mean if spent?

-It means no Butch (as head coach). Hard to envision him getting anything more than a nominal raise over what Golden was making and even that could be incentive laden.

-It means no Fuente, Herman or any other hot "up and comer". This is not because they won't actually get it or deserve it elsewhere but I can't see our admin jumping into top 20 salaryville and not getting an established "name" as a result.

-Thankfully it'd obviously mean no Cristobal. Or Schiano.

-It does mean that they think they can target either a NFL guy or a currently employed Power 5 established head coach. Please help me out with additional names because the only ones I'm even remotely hearing are Richt, Rich Rod, Strong and Chuck Pagano. Hue Jackson might fall into this category but that'd be a stretch IMO.

Again, I'm not sold that we're actually willing to spend $4 mil (plus the cost of a staff that a coach commanding that salary would demand) but the path that they'd go down to spend it seems to consist of a very small number of candidates.

That's the only reason I'm not jumping off a cliff about all this Mario stuff - yet. If we have $4 million to offer a head coach, we better offer a $4 million head coach.
 
with our admin, they'll pay 4 million to Mario and claim they are spending money.

This. Although I am also wary of that 4M figure as it pertains to Head Coach only or the entire staff budget. Have no clue about Manny's admin source.
 
I don't buy it. Will believe it when I see it. Think they may have leaked the "up to 4" thing to see if any big names may bite but in the end I think they will end up paying around 3

Was the $4M from an official UM sauce, or from a whoop sauce?

Just more misinformation.

A good guess would be that's the salary budget for the entire staph.

Yeah I'd like clarification as well. I took it as four million going to the head coach and the assistants' salaries is separate. It would be great if Mr. Ariz could shed some light on how much money the school really has to spend on a coach
 
There's no way $4M is for the whole staff. That's horrendous. Even right now we're probably above that. Both Coley and Donofrio were making over 500k

I don't think anyone is taking a pay cut to come to miami that is an established power 5 coach. Take a look at the link below, looking at the guys in the 2.2-3.2 mil a year current salary range might give us a few names that may come up.

I know there are reasons for some of those coaches to stay put, but I have to think we have a shot at some of those middle of the pac-12 coaches that will never pull past USC, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA in their recruiting grounds (California) and may consider the chance to win a title in Miami outweighing some of the perks of their current jobs, for example.

I am firmly in the camp of bring back butch, throw a ton of money at his staff to prep for a long run with heavily incentivized contracts, but I will not be at all surprised to see the above type names start to gain some traction.
 
We'd probably have to pay $5 million to make it worthwhile for a name guy to come here from a power 5 school. Guys like Briles and Dan Mullen are already making 4 so its not even that much of a raise in those instances.

But "up to $4 million" means we can likely match anything that anyone will throw at rising guys like Herman and Fuente should we decide to target them. If the money is even we pretty much beat any of the jobs available besides USC unless the coach in question cares an excessive amount about the stadium/facilities stuff.
 
Can someone get a photo of one of the Help Wanted signs seen around CG? It reads something like:

Head Corch Wanted
Willing to work cheap
