What do you think of Mel Tucker as a HC candidate?

He could rule the ACC and win the NC with Miami whereas there is a ceiling at MSU. He's having a special year, but he's clearly catching lightning in a bottle.

If he had higher expectations for his career, Miami is a perfect spot for a good coach: #1 fertile recruiting grounds, destination location and huge media brand the would loud him as the 2nd coming of Lombardi if he were the one that resurrected the Canes.

Tucker's name is being mentioned in the LSU coaching searching.

Dude isn't coming to Miami.

As Alabama, Georgia and other places prove—you don't need to be in Miami to poach Miami's best talent. Coaches just have to win elsewhere and they'll have their pick of the litter.

An entire generation of players is conditioned to get out of Miami to win national titles; most kids in college not even alive when the Canes last won it all in 2001.

Miami isn't the premier job our fans think it is; especially with an academic, non-football nerd president, a lame duck athletic director and egotistical, out of touch board of trustees.

Going to be hard for anyone to come here and win with that type of non-support.

He was the db coach of OSU in 02. 13 years later he was back as a db coach again. He has never stayed anywhere longer than a couple of years. We see this story play out all the time. Guy comes in with other coaches recruits, does well, then when his recruits are around they fall completely off the map. Dino Babers was hot too a couple of years ago. LOL
See Larry Coker and Ed Orgeron..

He's not leaving MSU for us.
Why doesn’t every coach want to coach the Miami Hurricanes ……a 15 year mediocre middle of the road ACC coastal team. Wait I forgot we have all this South Florida talent and Greentree All Americans.

See Larry Coker and Ed Orgeron..

Ed Orgeron did not come in and inherit a 15-0 roster from Les Miles. Here's what Ed O brought in.

2017
Patrick Queen, Saahdiq Charles, Jacoby Stevens, Myles Brennan, Grant Delpit, Tyler Shelvin, Jacob Phillips, Ed Ingram, K’ Lavon Chaisson, Clyde Edwards- Heliare, Justin Jefferson and Racy McMath.

2018
Terrace Marshall (five-star), Ja’ Marr Chase (four-star), Damone Clark, Damien Lewis, Chasen Hines (four-star)

2019
Derek Stingley, Jr., Trey Palmer, Jay Ward, Cordale Flott, Joseph Evans, Cade York and Quentin Skinner

And that doesn't include certain key transfer players you may have heard of.

Might have had the best wr group ever. I'll say that. I personally think LSU recruits itself. They know that too, which is why they have no problem hiring guys like Miles and O. Doesn't take much to be really good there. Or that is how I see it at least. Obviously I'm a lot higher on LSU than most on here though.

A good Miami program recruits itself too. Even under the Shapiro cloud, Golden had multiple top 15 classes (including a #10 class). Diaz landed a class just outside the top 10. One good season under Richt and we had the #8 class. It's not that difficult for a mildly competent recruiter.

Agreed. They have a few luxuries we don't though. Those kids grow up wanting to go to LSU and go to LSU. I think the whole state lets them do what they want for the most part, while we have had private eyes on us for 30 years now. We couldn't dream of getting away with what LSU does. No competition in state. Easy sale.

What administration supports the football program more MSU or UM?
Honest question.

And? Most HCs have a series of short stints before they get a HCing opportunity, you know what they call that...experience.

We see this story play out all the time. Guy comes in with other coaches recruits, does well, then when his recruits are around they fall completely off the map.

Except Tucker's turned over half of His roster and is 7-0 with "His guys"...LOL.

Dino Babers was hot too a couple of years ago. LOL

Babers? I don't get the comparison, but hey, do you.

His record is what 9-5? I just don't get the love fest with him. I'm not saying he is Manny Diaz or anything. Very lucky to win at Indiana. Very lucky. And that is his best W yet this year. Hasn't beaten a team with a winning record. He literally has 1 decent win in his coaching career, over a way overrated ASU team. Yeah crown him.

Honest question.
State school usually means more $$$ available via boosters/alum etc...so imo more $$$ for salary/asst coaching staff combined with lesser expectations paints MSU as the better situation at current. Here's why:

Expectations are significantly different. 8-9 wins and splitting wins vs rivals at MSU is considered extremely successful and the coach will be there 10+ years easy.

Floor at UM is win the division and be in the conference title game. Any coach is on the hot seat if that's not accomplished by end of Year 3.

Tucker isn’t coming here. Tucker isn’t going to take a pay cut to take a risky job with no support from the AD or BOT. Coral Gables isn’t a good job right now.

In year two, Tucker has that Michigan State team good enough to win the ACC and they came into the Hard Rock Stadium and beat the pants off of CMD’s squad. They know their assignments, they can tackle, block and execute. They are a well coached football team.

Most teams do all those things. Our incompetence shouldn't be the measuring stick. We make everybody look better than they are. They had 241 yards against INDIANA. 241.

A solid recruiter but better coach is the answer. One with an exciting offense and defense.

There will always be those recruits who want out of town, but when Miami starts winning the recruiting improves by default as more of the top players would want to be there.
