What can we take away from the early effects of the Transfer Portal dudes

Well college recruiting is not in jeopardy number one. It seems the value lies strictly in how long a kid will be here. A kid needs to acclimate to the new surroundings just as a true freshman does. Accept if you need say a field goal kicker which we did not get but a punter that we did get 2 pts for Manny on that.

You generally find out that there is more than meets the eye. A kid needs more classes to qualify , lingering injuries or the kid is not good enough to be a difference maker.
In fact our true Freshman on a composite get on the field score beats out a bunch of these transfers.

So while Jalen sits out and Bolton tries to find a spot and Tate tries to find himself we will hopefully see results come to fruition or just use the Transfer portal for a good punter and please find a field goal kicker.

Transfer kids have historically not planned out.

There’s a reason they were even allowed to transfer in the first place. We are seeing that firsthand now.

Although...KJ is balling the **** out so he’ll be the exception for us.

The transfer portal is something totally new. It’s not quite the same as how transfers used to be looked at

Your right KJ Osbourne is really stepping up. Very mature love the guy.

Just because a kid is a five star recruit doesn't mean he's automatically going to be a difference maker. It's the same thing with the portal. Hedley looks like a good pick up as does KJ, Tommy Kennedy does not, the jury is out on Bolden and Hill.

Haven't heard much fron Trevon some say he came in out of shape. The tackle from UCLA was looking good in spring but haven't seen his name much. Instead guys like Jordan Miller and Blisset are stepping up.

-UCLA tackle was not here in the spring. Diaz was impressed with chigozie after unc game actually.

-Hill couldn’t officially workout with the team because he wasn’t cleared at the time. Stuff like that matters especially early on. Still working himself into playing shape. And then you have the staff giving patchan all of these snaps so only so much of an impact you can make

Still hard to gauge. You have the obvious bust like Kennedy but still time for the others to prove their worth. Bolden will get his chance soon and Phillips next year if he's serious. I still think Martel has proven valuable just off the fact he made Williams step his game up this summer. Also down the road he should get a bigger role on offense. Hill has had some qb pressures but no sacks yet. Like stated above, maybe he came in out of shape.

Way to early, the jury is out on all of these players. Some kids didn't get here until the summer. We have a new HC,OC and DC. Everybody is trying to get acclimated to the new system. KJ and Hedley have been great, Hill and the UCLA tackle are providing solid depth and will get more burn as the year goes on. Bolden and Phillips have a couple of years to make their impacts. Tate may turn into an Edelman, who knows.

Bottom line, no one can call it a waste. Those schoolies weren't being used anyway so why not take a chance on some of these kids. If only KJ and Hedley start for us and if Hill and UCLA DT only are rotational players, that's a win! I also think Tate being in the room helped elevate the QB room all off season....hidden bonus.

Exactly, way too early to be trying deem any of these kids as busts outside of Kennedy and martell at qb at least as obviously the jury is still out on him at receiver

certainly helps with depth at very least. And while Tate has not had much impact directly on the field, the addition of another qb to the qb room with Tate's credentials and apparent work ethic, attitude, etc. is also something to consider of how it might have benefited the team. The increase in competition at the position certainly has helped those around Tate.

KJ is the best WR we have. that's about the only thing we've taken away yet. i think tate can actually be a nice weapon in the slot and running some wildcat stuff. but not much else to take away yet. and nrokuka (spelling) has been a nice shot for depth

Your right sorry he was not here in spring and I did hear coacbes speaking well of him.

Could not some of those schollies be used for the 2020 class ?

True adding tate In that room surely added another layer of competition which was great and propelled the room for sure.

Pretty sure hill was injured too

KJ Osborne was brought in to stabilize the receiving corps and has done that as well as contributing nicely on the field.

Lou Hedley was brought in to punt and has been very solid so far.

Chigoze Noruka was brought in to be a rotational DT and has been that. Diaz has recognized his play and publicly said he was going to give him more snaps.

Bubba Bolden wasn't cleared to play the first three games but will see immediate playing time now that he's eligible.

Trevon Hill wasn't cleared to practice with the team until late and wasn't in top shape. He should get more snaps in the rotation at DE especially against pass heavy opponents.

Tate Martell was brought in to compete for the QB job which he didn't win. He changed positions to WR (how many QBs would offer to do that?) and is in the rotation there. He's been used mostly as a decoy in his limited snaps.

Tommy Kennedy brought in to anchor left tackle but was overmatched from day one. He's the only transfer I would call a bust.

Jaelan Phillips is red shirting and will likely get a serious look at DE next season. He was one of the nation's top recruits for a reason.

All in all, I'd say the transfer portal moves were all great besides Kennedy. Martell didn't win the job but it's pretty clear that Jarren Williams is a special talent at QB and there's a place for Martell's athleticism in this offense.

lol in case you don't follow the team, the above post is a nice summary what each guy has done so far.
