What are you expecting to see In Game 1?

I hear people hype up our D a lot. But I need to see them be a lot better than last year.

Specifically, don’t let a brand new and/or average QB set personal/team records on us. When we discussed Diaz’s defense at Miss State the year before he came here, the thing that scared me the most was receivers seemingly being uncovered regularly. Arkansas, an abysmal passing team, shredded the fck out of him.

Last year, we saw a lot of that same stuff. I’d expect LSU to try to get Burrow comfortable with some short passes early. If we let him settle in hitting wide open receivers for first down after first down, like we did Bryant, Benkert, and Wisconsin’s QB, it could be problematic for us.

Rosier is the common theme amongst the dopey. But I expect he’ll either be average or improve a bit. I think he’ll be good enough for us to beat LSU. We need to exploit what SHOULD BE a gigantic advantage for us in this game, and that’s our D versus their horrible O with a QB making his first start.

Bottom line, can this defense(which is loaded with NFL talent all over) get off the field more consistently on 3rd and long? It's really that simple.

Last year too many teams were able to shred Diaz's units for long stretches. And while the 'Turnover Chain' is great, the reality having that many TO's again is highly unlikely. This is a variable that generally changes from year to year. So how do you mitigate that? By being more sound on 3rd downs and forcing more short drives and consistently being able to flip the field for your offense

In many ways this is on Diaz, yeah in Starkvegas he may have not had great material to work with but at Miami, this season? Yeah, he's gotta plenty of talent at his disposal all over

Game 1?

I’m expecting to see Rosier to manage the game adequately. I’m expecting a 20-30 255 yrds, 2 TDs 0 interception, 1 rushing TD type of performance.

I’m expecting our O to be a 2-5 conversion rate on 3rd downs.

I’m expecting our def to be in the back field a lot...put up a 4 sack 8 TFLs type of performance.

I’m expecting to see the TO Chain twice.

I’m expecting to see the refs miss more holding calls.

I’m expecting to see Mike Jackson have one pass completed on him all game.

I’m expecting to see JJ be all over the field making life difficult for Burrows.

I’m expecting Homer to rush for a consistent 85 yrds w 1 TD.

I’m expecting Richards to free up JT4 and Jeff is the one that goes off.

I expect Brevin to have a couple of drive sustaining catches

I expect our O line to struggle, initially, and then start turning up the heat on the opposing DL.

I expect a W game 1 where the immediate ? after the game will be, is Miami for real?

That’s what I expect to see and witness game 1.

This couldn’t be said any better. Diaz and the defense must rebound as they ended the season horribly in the last 4 games

I'd like to see the following
1) O-line is at least average for both run and pass
2) Malik's completion percentage is 60ish %
3) Richt gets more creative on offense and does screens, motions, etc. (Not at all hard to do)
4) Diaz actually adjust on 3rd down and not just give the 8 yard completions over the middle of the field over and over again.
5) Don't want to see bad QBs look amazing every game
6) Richt get 2 unsportsmanlike penalties this year
. t. k. j. damm man you pretty much nailed it, but Richt getting two unsportsman in first game, I wish

Couldn’t agree more, well said

I'd like to see the result of all this new teams speed on O. With a healthy AR, Pope, JT, Homer, Dallas, Liguard, Gray and Mallory we've added a lot of break away speed to this team so I'd like to see a few explosive plays. At least 4 for 25+ yards.

Tired of hearing about how good Harley is. Wanna see it already.

Is Brevin Jordan ready to start against a true SEC D?

Is Rousseau the real deal?

If Patrick Bethel can hold his spot down our front 7 can be nationally good enough and deep enough to withstand a run against the best.

I'm so ready for this game!

The Diaz detractors will tell you he got run out of the Big 12 because his defenses got shredded by accurate QBs.

Through 2 years here, I've seen noting to the contrary.

He's a good defensive coach, of course. He's a Top 25 DC, easy. But the weakness of his defense is his inability to cover short and intermediate passes when facing an accurate QB that can hit open receivers in those windows. We saw it time and time again. Logan Woodside, Benkert, Wisky's QB, Bryant...all the polished passers ate this defense for lunch. Josh Jackson, Wimbush, Blackman, Daniel Jones, Dungey, UNC's hot garbage 3rd string QB...those are the kids Manny defends well. The RPO stuff, the run first QBs, the kids who are not pure passers. He kills them. But his whole career, you put a smart, accurate QB out there, he normally torches Manny's defense. I believe Burrow fits into the first category, but he hasn't played. So there's a definite chance he can be rattled. If we let him get into a rhythm early, he will have success. And I feel the gameplan will be just like Clemson and Wisky. Don't play to Manny's strengths....use the short pass to set up the run.

Truth is we had a pedestrian pass-rush last season when it counted. The edge-rushing talent got a huge upgrade this season and I expect a lot more pressure on the QB. I also expect better coverage with the striker position. Manny made a great decision to shut down the run last year and he gambled our pass-rush would win 3rd & long, but we weren't flexible enough and got shredded too often. This year he tweaked the personnel and spread the stakes more evenly, if not very much in our favor. I expect better coverage and just as many turnovers..

If the front 4 can hold the point enough to get 3rd & longs, we have more edge specialists (Garvin, Jackson, Rousseau, Patchan, Joyner, Carter) than last year to pressure the QB and let our DBs (who don't suck) do what they do. Way too much experience returning and talent on the back end to not be a faster defense.

I expect dudes to fly around and make plays.

Yeah, I hear ya, Im glad the staff seems to understand this and has created 'the Striker'( and again, lets see if it really changes the construct of how Miami covers certain things) but as I said before, I look at this defensive roster and there are multiple guys on every level of the defense that will play at the next level. Diaz has all the material to field an elite unit

Im also very curious to see how the front four plays with coach Simpson after the departure of Kool

I would like to see us have a good rhythm on offense.
Scoring off turnovers.
Scoring TDs in the redzone instead of FGs.
A Win.
No injuries.

I'm really, really, really, really hoping this striker position is meant to combat that nonsense we've seen over the past 2 years. Hoping and praying that Manny is smart enough to adjust his defense for this huge flaw.

Good thing is to me, its a big game so they wont come out flat. They will be up for it.

But in all honesty, I just want to protect the ball, rely on our bunch of RB's on offense...

On defense, I wanna see someone dead. I want to see someone on defense decapitate someone on LSU. Thats all I want.

Thank you,

Gabe
