What are you expecting to see In Game 1?

Here’s what I don’t want to see:

-Wild zone blitzes on 3rd down and long. Put Garvin, Djax, Willis, and Joe Jax on the line and let them go and play sound/fundamental coverage behind them

That could take the defense to the next level. I feel we will have a better pass rush in terms of the dline when sending 4. Yes our pass rush was good but a lot of times it was because we sent a lot of blitzes.

We ain't going to look amazing as it is game 1 and we won't he "firing on all cylinders " but I do think we play well enough to win 24-13 . Which is enough for me . Homer and DJ combine for 180 yards on the ground and another 60 in the air . Thomas gets a long 70 yard TD and Rosier is 16-26 235 yards 2 td ( one on the ground) and 1 int.

Everyone is talking about Malik..... IMO the most critical part of this game is having the run game working.

We have to make it easy on him. If we can't run the ball on them, Malik's job is going to be a lot more difficult.
This LSU front 7 is no slouch, gotta get Homer going.

I expect to see a slow start through the first quarter. LSU might even score first. Defense will settle into the game and put the clamps on LSU in the second half. Offense will get going in the second quarter, but will really hit a groove in the second half. O Line gets more confident in the second half that indeed they are above average and start opening up running lanes on a tired LSU D Line. we win by 14 points... 27-13

I want to see Richt get everybody involved on offense with the quick passing game to help our OL in pass protecting. And Diaz getting away from always blitzing the corner and saftey from the same side on almost every 3rd and long.

Thought about this a little more. One of the main things I want to see right out of the gate is the offense capitalizing on opportunities created by the defense or LSU’s mistakes.

Not every great team is great every snap. But most great teams take advantage when opportunities present themselves. Miami was AWFUL at this last year. And it doesn’t have to be a turnover deep in LSU’s territory. It can be a short field after a poor punt/good return. It can be a dumb penalty on LSU’s defense that prolongs a drive. We all know Rosier is not going to be the most efficient player ever. We can’t expect 8 play, 80 yard drives. But there will be times in this game when the offense has an opportunity to change the game. They must capitalize on those. No more 3 and outs when we start a drive on the 50. No more 3 and outs after a turnover.

LSU’s defense is too good to expect sustained drives all night. There will be ugly drives and missed plays. That’s fine. But on the very few occasions when an opportunity opens, the offense needs to step on throats. That killer instinct was sorely lacking last year.

Our dt vs their power run is the key to the game imo. There’s lots of questions about the big boys inside , and other than Willis there’s no hosses who are run stoppers.

Which has me concerned.

Hopefully Ford , Tito and Bethel step it up. But they seem more like shoot the gap , pass rushing types.

Consistent O... we have way too much talent to stall for a half. Enough hot cold ****. Enough vanilla ****. We’ve got the dogs... time to let em eat.

Sound D.... year 3 in the system. No more bull****. Manny has no excuses.

Solid specials.... no more Feagles **** ups. No more **** blocking in the rerun game.

It’s ******* year 3 and still have not played a complete game in ages. Talk is cheap. Time to start cracking people

Offense:
Efficient, few mental mistakes
Fewer three-and-out drives
Scoring TDs in the red zone
A solid push from the OL on short yardage
Playcalling not shy on using the freshman

Defense:
Pass rush without overuse of stunting
Linebackers cleaning up
Secondary playing with better ball awareness
No first downs given up on 3rd and long

Special Teams:
Solid coverage units
Solid return units
New PK looking comfortable
No shanks from Feagles

1. The O-line being able to pick up 1 **** yard if we need it
2. Being better on third down
3. Kinda related to #1. Not having to settle for a FG after having the ball inside the 10
It's tough, but its a must.

The rushing game... Improved OL. I want to see yards on the ground... with this the aerial attack will happen.

We need to be able to throw to open up the run, IMO.

The blueprint to stop Rosier is out - load the box, and make him prove he can throw downfield and beat you. I’m sure LSU will be especially confident early on in this regard, considering G. Williams should presumably take away half the field.

If we can connect early, we can hopefully make them abandon their game plan and make some room for Our run game to get going.

Something I noticed while rewatching last year’s games, that I don’t recall being a huge topic when discussing Rosier: he gets a ton of balls batted at the LOS. Not even down, but UP. We got lucky several times that they weren’t picked off (the long haired white DE from Wisconsin picked him right out of the air).

I noticed it happen several times on Screens, both RB and WR. It seems to be a subsidiary of his tendency to lock on 1 receiver. I’ll be keeping an eye on this, hoping for improvement.

This game is gonna be a dog fight imo LSU defense has the size and athleticism to give our run game trouble and force Malik to make big time throws. Our offensive line while improved is still a weak point espically in the run game. This game comes down to how much as Malik improved because if we get last years Malik it's gonna be a long night and that's just the truth. The defense should play well and get after Burrow but the offense specifically Malik are gonna need to step up and make plays. I believe our skill positions are elite but in order for them to be able to make plays the oline is gonna have to hold up and Malik is gonna need be on target.
