What about James Coley as new head coach?

It's probably the worst idea I've ever heard to be honest.

Worse than the one floating around in Al's head as a doomsday save-my-job move of replacing D'onofrio by coaxing Al Groh out of retirement? We're getting a former Head Coach as a coordinator!!!! All is well. All is well.

I wouldnt mind it if he has someone else running the offense, he has shown that he can make adjustments, it wouldnt be my first second third fourth choice but i wouldnt mind it

That was kinda my point too in my half-hearted defense of this as choice # 486. Coley as a face of the program/master recruiter/joint OC with someone that's a skilled playcaller could be a significant improvement if he has any idea of how to hire a real DC. Again, not advocating for this at all but it isn't the worst case scenario going either.

Sorry, but ***** no! He is a terrible OC. Now, I see why he didn't call plays at fsu. He knew we needed to score often @ GT. He saw what GT was doing. Yet, the offense only produced 3 second half points.

So, no to Coley.[/QUOTE]

Agree 100%. Need to keep him on the payroll as a recruiter, but that is it. He is in over his head as an OC, and surely would be as a head coach as well.

As far as I'm concerned, he's part of the problem.

If you need to know why, remember the double reverse he called on 3rd and goal from 8 yard line to the short side of the field against Loserville?

After that call I see why Jimbo didn't let him call plays at FSU.

How about Rex Ryan as our next head coach? He will KILL it in recruiting. Just needs a good offensive staff.

At least his post game interviews won't be filled with crap excuses and coined motivational phrases....

Interim coach would be fine with me but hiring him as our next head coach would be an absolute disaster

This. Hiring him would be the equivalent of hiring Randy Shannon all over again.

If we hire a coordinator to their first gig, they had better be from one of the best programs in America and have a **** of a track record, neither of which Coley has.

That's an insult to Randy. Randy's unit was top 10 every year and has a ring. Corch Corley is guiding one of the statistically worst offenses in Miami history.

The reason James Coley continues to improve is because he has Ice Harris tied to his hip. Remember Ice Coached Coley. You can see each week our offense improves. But as our offense improves we get worse on defense.

I am not trying to be rude or come off as knowing more than you but this is football and not John Madden.
UM having the same number of offensive possessions means nothing when Georgia Tech held the ball for over 40 mins. If you are going to keep the ball for over half the quarter, the number of possessions means very little.
You can’t ignore the reason why Duke and Yearby averaged over 7 yards per carry. James Coley did a good job of keeping G Tech off balanced which opened up the field to allow Duke and Yearby to run. Lining up and just trying to run will give you the exact same results we had in the Louisville game. Why would you want to become one dimensional? Do you want a repeat performance of the Louisville game?

Let me break it down further for you. FSU, who won the title, did not score on every drive. There were many drives that stalled. It was not a big deal because their defense played lights out.

UM was up 14-7. If the defense got a few stops, UM could have driven down the field and scored. For argument sakes, let’s say they scored 3 points. The Score is now 17-7. Defense gets a few more stops and the offense scores again we would now be up 24-7

Coley can't even call offensive plays as the Offensive Coordinator - what makes anyone think he could be a Head Coach?

No more guesses, no more turds, no more gambles.

Butch Davis.
