the way the nfl does its voting, the only lock is ed Reed.

they are really hard on receivers so Dre, if he gets in, will probably have to wait a while.
Vince, don't know if he was ever considered the best DT in the league. he might have to wait as well
Gore might be the most under appreciated Rb ever.

the rest have no shot imo.

Reed 100% lock
Dre is a pretty good bet. The committee tends to "punish" guys who were troublemakers in the locker room and off the field but Dre was/is a model citizen/teammate.
When Gore hangs up the cleats as the 4th or 5th all time leading rusher in NFL history, they'll have no choice but to put him in.
Vince...maybe. Much like O-linemen, nose tackles don't really put up stats that matter. Eating double teams and collapsing a pocket aren't quantified. However, his Superbowl rings will put him in a positive light and he's got a shot to get in.

The rest have no shot. All good players but not HOF caliber.

Andre Johnson is definitely getting in (the only current eligible WR with more than 14000 yds not yet in is Issac Bruce) but you are right that they'll probably make him wait a year or two as I believe he's also eligible at the same time as a handful of other big name wideouts too.

Now if he had played in a "big" market or for a marquee team instead of doing what he did (even more impressively, imo) on an often perennially bad team then these dopes would probably put him in on the first ballot.

Andre will get in. He won't be a 1st ballot HOFer, but he'll get in.

I don't think Vince was the best DT, but he was up there. The voting is done by media members and they won't see gaudy stats put up by Vince. But he was an important anchor for those Pats defenses. ****, you could argue that New England's defense suffered significantly once Bellichick tried to replace him when he went to Houston.

Vilma and Gore will get in, but won't be a 1st ballot. Gore will have it alone because he's going to be top 5 all-time in career rushing yards.

Reed will get in, will be a 1st ballot.

I think Willis, Portis, Rolle and Shockey will be toss ups. If 2/4 were to make it in, I'd say Rolle and Portis but they'd have to wait a minute.

pats actually improved slightly on defense after vince went to houston. he was being rotated a lot by that point with alan branch. he should still be in the hof, but dt's historically don't get great recognition unless they rack up sacks.

I love Shockey but I don't think it'll even be close with him- especially when you think of some of the other TE's to go in recently. Shockey would've needed those seasons he had around 2005 and 2006 to have spanned his entire career.

If you watched Vince play and what he did, he's a HOFer. If you just look at #s it may be tough for him. He made what, 3 All-Pro teams?

Really? I thought their defenses got worst. I stand corrected if that's the case.

yep. stayed the same on pass defense (17th) and rush defense (9th), improved in ypg (13th to 9th), declined slightly in ppg (8th to 10th).

the ppg only dropped .1 between seasons, but other teams improved on d.

that all being said, vince deserves canton. he was a rock for over a decade in new england and a great man off the field with his charity work.

I guess I worded it wrong, but in his prime (Vince) their defenses seemed to be more elite. Again, I'm being lazy here and not going back to previous seasons. But that Pats defense was ridiculous when Vince was the focal point as the NT. His last year there, he was obviously not the same player which is why Bellichick had no problem moving on - as he's been known to do throughout his tenure as HC.

definitely not wrong about how good the pats defenses were with young vince, especially in the 03 and 04 super bowl runs. belichick doesn't keep a guy around for that long unless he's truly exceptional. him and brady are the only players with rings from 04 and 14, but he would have eaten up way too much cap space and slowed branch/brown developmentally in 15 so the pats didn't pick up his option.

Yep. Bill's always been known for getting rid of guys a year early rather than a year later. With Vince, he got rid of him at the perfect time.

Vince - i think its a lock. He got ALOT of love the latter part of his career, especially when he played for the Patriots. I dont see him being left out.

Reed - lock

Dre - should be a lock. basing this of marvin harrison making it - another quiet wr who stayed low key - outside of TDs numbers are similar **asterisk because marvin had peyton and i feel as though that puts him in the "in-crowd" and off the top of my head i cant remember Dre playing with anyone with that much pull/clout/credibility/likeability or whatever you'd call it when the media loves you.

Gore - should be a lock; doesnt get alot of love but like Jay said numbers dont lie; i think he gets in

Rolle - No

Portis - No

Willis - No

Shockey - No

Vilma no shot most especially because of his ties to bountygate

Ed, Dre, Vince and Gore are in. Ed is def 1st ballot and the others will have to wait.

I was going to create a thread about most under appreciated Canes from that class in the NFL, but F it, I’ll just hi jack this thread. Lol.

Go back and look at Portis stats; my dude got snubbed from several pro bowls. I didn’t even realize how good he really was until I went back and look. He should’ve been to at least 4 pro bowls in his 9 year career. Not saying he would’ve been in the HOF, but the case could’ve been argued b/c of how prolific he was.

I agree. He was LOVED in NY by sportswriters and fans. That first season in NY, preseason game i think it was when his helmet came off and he kept running and trucked someone - instant hero.

Shockey would’ve been a lock too, but that injury derailed his career. Shockey, no doubt, would’ve went to at least 7 pro bowls. But yeah, don’t think he’s in.

Rolle, Portis, Vilma, and Willis will all be apart of the hall of very good, but not fame. Willis never got back to his old self, imo, after that knee injury from the Fiesta Bowl. Think he would’ve been in discussion as an all time back if he stayed healthy.
