Never pay attention to these recruits until they’re on campus and practicing. You know the Turds will poach all the really good ones with bags and the lure of playing in the $EC, so why follow them. They’re going to Gainesville, that’s all you need to know.

This kid committed to Richt. That’s how long ago it was. There’s three things at play here:

1) Collins has been iffy with his commitment for a while. He’s constantly flirting with Florida even though he doesn’t even have a real offer from the Gators. He was essentially told to “s#it or get off the pot” and he was still noncommittal.

2) He has not shown the improvement that coaches (not just Miami’s) were assuming he would. He was intriguing as an undersized 10th grader but as he’s filled out, his play hasn’t improved. He’s playing next to the best DT in the nation and still struggles to stand out.

3) There’s more pressing needs and bigger fish in Miami’s pond right now. They’ve got essentially 20 kids locked up for 2021 but still are looking for transfer help at CB and possibly DE and QB. Not to mention, they’re very much in the mix for Jake Garcia now that he’s de-committed from USC. Mason Smith seems like a long shot at DT right now but he’s still in play. Can’t use one of your limited IC spots on a lukewarm DT who hasn’t shown much improvement on the field.
