Looks like the all-powerful overlord NCAA is being attacked on multiple angles. Still in the early stages but dominoes are being tipped.
1. Transfer Portal: The days of the athletes being beholden to their school are gone. If a guy decides he does not like the coach, the fans or the depth chart he can bolt to greener passages.
2. NIL: The athlete can get paid directly. Complete and utter game changer. Of course, highly touted blue chip prospects and players will go to the highest bidder (or at least perceived best opportunities to get paid).
3. CFB Bowls/Playoff: NCAA resisted this forever. Once it was initiated at four teams it was obviously going to expand.
4. Conferences: The days of regional good old boys networks are being uprooted. Clearly schools are looking for the best financial deal and apparently willing to go anywhere to get it.
The new overlord is the ever expanding TV Deal. The days of the sport pretending to be amatuer athletics with student athletes LOL are over. In some ways, CFB has always been a minor league for the NFL but it is now being structured and operated in a similar fashion. The King is dead long live ESPN/ABC, etc.
