Official Weekly Polls and Rankings Thread

My conspiracy theory is they are making these polls more biased then ever before to help push for the 24 team playoff. Make the other conferences beg for an extra spot or 2 while the sec gets 9-10 teams in.

He didn’t go into specifics, basically said people just think they are a good QB and that’s it, but people need to watch them because it’s not true.

I haven’t watched them so I can’t say if he’s being an SEC shill or not. He also ranted about Duke, Wake, VT, Pitt not getting love and they’re doing their show from the Pitt/VT game this week.

He basically tried to approach it as if you had your memory wiped from all past success or failure and just simply voted based on what you've seen this year.

The problem with any weekly poll is no matter how you do it you get poll inertia. The only correct way to do this would be to ignore any past success/failure and create one poll at the very end of the season...or, you know, just have a playoff format and seeding that is set by rules and not subjective, corrupt bulls***.

And I agree with this. I have argued for years about anchoring bias. Now people are calling it poll inertia. It's the same thing.

But when someone has a long record of being an SEC homer, I need a little more than "trust me bro" to put Mississippi State in Top 5. He didn't give any reasoning whatsoever. And unlike most of his shows, he didn't give his actual final Top 25 list, so he kind of skirted around the answer of who he would replace, even though he said he was answering it in the show.

Stuff like this is why I will always be cautious about Josh, and why I can't entirely get on board with him.

Y’all need to stop speaking with such certainty if you don’t understand his show.

There's a huge difference between not understanding his show and not being part of the bro culture that buys into his bull****.

I'm the latter, not the former.

I'm also not being strung along for multiple days by a content creator, waiting with bated breath until Thursday just to see what his actual "rankings" are.

But I guess I must just not UNDERSTAND.

This conversation isn’t very productive. That isn’t Pate, or his show, at all.

I do hate that he’s associated himself with the Bussin guys. They are awful.

Pate very clearly articulates his reasoning for everything. He does a Power “rating” every Tuesday that people still don’t understand.

He does his personal “rankings” once per week on Thursdays.

Not agreeing with him is one thing, but please stop speaking in absolutes when it’s clear you don’t follow the show. It comes across as incredibly ignorant, and I think you’re better than that.

Only Fox/B10 are pushing for 24 teams so ESPN loses exclusive rights to all the playoff games and FOX will be able broadcast some of the playoff games.

ESPN/SEC wants it to remain the same so ESPN maintains exclusive rights to all the games and as many SEC teams in the Playoffs as possible.

That’s why you hear talking heads on FOX arguing how great a 24 team playoff would be and anyone associated with ESPN doesn’t think it is all great.

Look, I get that you are educated. So you may be too proud to admit you were wrong. However, please watch the below if you have time.

I just get frustrated when people clamor on the internet about something they have absolutely no clue about.

Pate can be dead wrong at times (who isn’t), but he’s one of the most rational and logical voices in CFB.

You really shouldn't make assumptions.

I used to follow him. I've talked about my opinions of Josh on here before, several times within the last year. I stopped following him regularly, but I still watch a few of his videos as I enjoy getting a well-rounded perspective of opinions on certain subjects. I do watch his AP rankings critique videos, and occasionally I will also watch a recap-type video. No, I do not watch the full shows, and I absolutely do not watch anything he does with the Bussin guys.

We can agree to disagree that Pate clearly articulates his reasoning for everything. However, it is incredibly demeaning of you to tell me that I'm coming off as ignorant, or that I don't understand things, simply because I am criticizing a YouTuber. I'm pretty sure everyone over the age of 12 understands the power ratings; people just complain because they dislike where the model placed their team. Regardless, the model isn't complicated. Anyone who's had even a basic stats class understands the model. And Josh puts himself out there as a public figure, so he's not immune to criticism.

You made a post about Pate not providing reasoning behind putting MSU top 5, when in fact he never put MSU top 5. At least not yet. I posted the video in which this entire thing started.

That is the definition of ignorance. Nothing personal.

No, I said that Josh Pate said that he would put them Top 5, or at least Top 10. That is a comment that he made.
