Week 7 Stat Roll

Take away the G5 and FCS games and Fletcher averaged 4.9 ypc first four games. Think that's a better comparison against the final 7 games.

#6 had at least 5 runs of ~30+ yards after Rivers came back (am including the stolen 55-yarder against Cuse, lol), and just one before (against FAMU). I think Rivers was the key, because he was a much better run blocker at LT than Bell, and when he was at Guard we were able to get OL to the second level much more often when running duo, so we saw more explosive runs.

Fletcher still isn't close to Martinez breaking long runs, but he's doing a better job after contact this year (3.13 yards after contact), which is the best on the team.
Definitely agree Rivers made a difference. Just weird it boosted Martinez so much while Fletcher just maintained. I think that's because Fletcher struggles a bit in the open field/second level.

Fletchers Career Numbers:
Overall YPC
- 4.9 (Fr) - 5.4 (Soph) - 5.5 (Jr)
YPC vs P4 - 4.6 (Fr) - 5.2 (Soph) - 4.4 (Jr)
Overall Yds After Contact - 3.8 (Fr) - 3.1 (Soph) - 3.6 (Jr)

Rest of this Year - I expect his overall YPC to come down, but his P4 YPC to go up.

IMO - there's some fluctuation in Fletchers numbers, but they've always been in the same range. No big leaps - He's been pretty much the same RB all along.

I feel pretty confident saying that Fletcher is our best RB.

For whatever reason:

Fletcher outplayed Martinez the 1st half of last season. At the time I commented how slow Martinez was to the LOS. It was weird. Maybe he was out of shape.

Martinez lost his starting spot to Fletcher after the bye (Fletcher started Games 7 & 8 vs Louisville & FSU) before Martinez won it back.

Martinez hit a level/gear in the 2nd half of the season Fletcher simply doesn't have. I agree Rivers coming back helped - but weird it only helped Martinez and not Fletcher. Maybe Martinez losing his spot lit a fire under his ***.

I think martinez needed time to adjust to the new scheme. Fletcher has been running inside zone from shotgun his entire high school and college career. Martinez came from a totally different scheme with a short camp

Even when he had a slow start he was our best short yard back and he rarely had negative plays

Think we should implement more gap scheme runs, fletch looked great with it vs Florida. Dawson really only uses it as a situational layer when teams are sitting in 2high, should mix it in more

Mirabal loves duo.. so we run duo..

Crazy thing is our runs outside have been much more effective but we want to run when they know we will run. From what he explained, wants to be connor stallion era michigan without connor stallion..

I love duo too so im not too mad at that but they have to evolve this philosophy lol… its needed but at some point logic has to factor in
