Week 11 Stat Roll

I will still never get over the fact that there were people on this board and in the media that were trying to sell having a more “efficient” offense with Beck who is a “better athlete” (lmfaoooo) than Cam Ward.

The offensive media reporting coming out of the 2025 camps, sans-Toney, was North Korea level propaganda.

I think the consensus was if we could be a top 25 offense type we would be a big threat

If we were a top 25 offense I think we would be favored to win it all now

Real shame we are reliving this only the other side of the ball

Yep. We said it all summer. Honestly we spent way more time talking about the defense, because it was so awful last year. I probably said 100x some variation of “if our defense can just improve to around a top 30 unit, we can easily make the playoff and have a good shot at it all because the offense won’t be #1 obviously but still should be Top 20, maybe Top 25”

Swinggggggggg and a miss.

As we've said for 9 straight weeks now, explosives is far and away the biggest issue. Turnovers haven't been incredible, but we're 36th in giveaways. 9 in 9 games. Penalties have killed us, for sure. But IMO by far the biggest anchor to this offense is the inability to generate explosive plays.
I was talking about the concern of lack of explosive plays all offseason. Beck was never a big play guy at UGA. And our Run Game is designed to eliminate any hope of 15 yard run. A match made in ****. Staff must get more aggressive.

There is no excuse this offense shouldn’t be top 25, idgaf.

I can only speak for myself, but none of that came from me. My goal was a Top 20 offense. Last year’s was #1 by a mile.

We did, but that's just largely because we're fans and the defense was better than 2022, so obviously give the new guy a lifetime extension.

In reality though, the defense (through 9 games) is MUCH better than Guidry's in 2023.

We haven't given up more than 24 points in regulation all year. Guidry did 5 times.
We haven't given up more than 404 yards of offense all year. Guidry did 3 times.
We haven't allowed more than 5.54 yards per play all year. Guidry did 3 times.

Agreed, but wasn’t the defense of Guidry was he turned around a poor defense using poor players?

Imagine being located in an area with some of the most explosive offensive players in the country yet being ranked near the bottom of the nation in explosives.

You're a defensive coach. Is there a situation you're ever in during a game where you're in MORE of a conflict than facing a multi-dimensional (in theory) offense on 2nd and short? I've never coached defense but I'd think if I was facing a 2nd and 2, for example, I'm actually hoping they run the ball for a short gain, maybe they pick up the first down, OK, but you're not giving up a big play nor significant position on the field. That's probably reasonable best case.

If I'm facing a 2nd and 2 from their 41, and they pick up 3 so now it's 1st and 10 from their 44, that's probably a win for me.

What if I told you it's been 5 games since our offense did anything but run the football with a running back in that situation? Five. Full. Games.

Most of our explosive signees aren’t on the field right now for a variety of reasons. We also missed in the Portal (Eric Singleton, Zachariah Branch) and with South Florida guys (Jeremiah Smith, Isaac Brown, Desmond Reid).

This is separate from the scheme and philosophy concerns, which are also legitimate.

My favorite receiver in the portal was De’Zhaun Stribling, really wish he was at Miami instead of being the 4th receiver at Ole Miss.

I know it was a transition class but mistakes were made in '22 that are costing us now too. Citizen probably the only signing that could be argued as "explosive"

I was thinking about this last week as well. We have completely screwed the pooch on offensive skill talent recruiting under Mario. Our 2023 class should be juniors and 2024 class should be sophomores. Those should be the kids leading your program, with the 2025 kids being sprinkled in.

2023 skill position signees:

Mark Fletcher - solid player, not explosive
Robby Washington - Zilch
Ray Ray Joseph - Zilch
Riley Williams - Zilch
Chris Johnson - Zilch
Emory Williams - Zilch
Jackson Carver - Zilch
Shemar Kirk - Zilch

2024 skill position signees:

Jojo Trader - Basically zilch
Ny Carr - Zilch
Elija Lofton - Playing but about as explosive as a Laffy Taffy
Chance Robinson - Zilch
Jordan Lyle - We'll always have USF 2024
Judd Anderson - Zilch
Chris Wheatley-Humphrey - Zilch

That is frighteningly terrible. Like honestly, you couldn't stack more useless classes back to back if you tried. Obviously we shouldn't bury all these kids yet, especially the 2024 class. But we're now either 2.75 or 1.75 seasons into their careers, and BY FAR the best player on this entire list is Mark Fletcher, who isn't exactly Barry Sanders. The entire rest of both classes have, what? 10 combined 20+ yard plays in their careers?

I think Marty Brown is a fine player. He's a solid ACC back. But let's be really real here....this is Year 4 under a guy who I believe is a very good recruiter. Under no circumstances should you pull a kid from North Dakota State in the summer and he comes in and is immediately arguably your best back. That's absurd. That's a massive fail in talent acquisition.

Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a recruiting thread, but probably already too late for that. But we don't have much to work with here, and to compound that, the staff has decided to be the world's most boring football team. Not great, Bob.

Good to see you come around.

No, there are no FBS vs FCS games factored into these rankings at all. That's why I say at the top every week, this is FBS vs FBS only. All numbers for all 136 FBS teams DO NOT include any stats against FCS competition.

So, I'm sorry to inform you, yes, our offense is really this mediocre.
How do you get that data? What’re you using to filter out FCS games for all 136 teams? Didn’t know that was possible.
