Week 1 Depth Chart

I like physical punt returners, think Tyrique will do very well there, kinda when we had KJ back there.
I like guys back there who can catch the ball. Even better if brave enough to run up and catch the short ones that otherwise roll 25 yards.

I'd fair catch most punts WITHOUT a holding or push in the back penalty and be happy.

Better than I expected.

Love:
- Arroyo, Williams, Kinchens, and Clark are in the 2 deep
- Smith, Rambo, Harley, and Restrepo are confirmed to be the top 4 receivers as most have seen throughout spring and camp
- Nesta being an "or" for both starting DT spots - allows us to switch it up and even have our 2 best DT together JHH and Nesta
- Starting OL - looks solid with a very good backup tackle in Williams
- CBs- looks solid with Stevenson, Ivey, and Couch as our top 3 with Blades a very good backup

Feeling Meh:
- Carter over Gil - many are freaking out, but I'm sure they are both going to be playing a ton, starter just means they play first play
- Wiggins over Pope - I'd rather have Pope over Wiggins, but I realize that Pope needs to play slot to succeed and we are deeper there
- McCloud starting- ideally would of preferred it to be Johnson and Harvey as our starters, but apparently they want them on the same side, expect both to play a ton so not that worried. Hopefully McCloud can provide production similar to Trent Harris.

Not happy about:
- Jennings in 2 deep - Put Brooks there please! Edit: He's injured so makes sense, we will have to deal with this week 1

100%. I especially feel like Pope should be in 2 deep before Wiggins. But that's probably because they're putting him at slot, and Harley and Restrepo outplayed him in camp. he deserves to get his shot before Dee, IMHO.

Never never want to see Jennings take a meaninful snap again. Put Cave in their to get his reps.

One slight exception is that I've consistently been more positive on Carter than most here on CIS, think he could make a good striker. He lays the wood and I don't see him as soo stiff and slow for the coverage duties closer to the line. This is the second year in a row Gil has had a worse than expected camp (last year Keontra took a lot of his snaps and was listed as "or" in early depth charts). If he wants to get to the NFL, he needs to treat it like a full year job. ... Anyway, I expect he'll end up taking majority of striker snaps this year with Chase Smith coming on strong.

I wouldn’t read too much into starters on defense, specifically on the line. There’s gonna be a ton of rotation there. Everyone in the two deep and possibly more will get snaps. Carter over Frierson makes sense to me against Alabama. We need a physical presence against the run. Gil will play a ton too so don’t get too crazy about that one either.

I told y’all that only one of the Pope/Wiggins combo was going to crack the two deep. They’ve been passed up. It’s unlikely either plays a ton this year unless there’s injuries

Keontra at mike
Carter at will
Frierson at striker is what I'd like to see

And before anyone starts menstruating about Keontra's size, our current MLB1 is 5'10 220 lbs

Facts. Franchise used to always crush people who would focus on weight and height. It's about playmaking ability.

Flagg and Jennings could each weigh 300 pounds and run a 4.4, but if they can't make plays, it doesn't matter. Unfortunately, they weight 220 and run a 5.0, so they maybe have 5-10 pounds on the other guys, give up 3/10ths to 5/10th a second in speed AND cannot make plays.
