Lose out. Hear me out.
I know what your saying.. how does losing out benefit us? Tanking in CFB does nothing. Your 100% right but look at our situation like this.
Let's say we finish 9-3 and by some miracle finish 10-3 what does that do? SURE it will FEEL good but honestly what does it do long term? I'll tell you, nothing. If we make the ACC championship game we will be walking into another bloodbath and if we don't we'll probably be in the WorldCamping or Sun Bowl. What's worse is it will probably validates in Richt's mind that his play calling isn't the problem but instead it is thanks to better execution. That means another year of Richt calling plays and we all know Richt isn't a good enough play caller to lead us where we want to go.
Now, what happens if we lose out? The spotlight will the be on Richt in the off-season to make 4 Million dollar HC decisions. Say we finish 7-5 and our defense ends up in the top 10 then what does that say about Richt's offense? That should say CRYSTAL CLEAR to Richt that he isn't what he once was as a play caller and there needs to be major changes offensively because what we have in place isn't going to work even with a reliable defense. Not only that, but we will all know Richt's true intent of coming here based on those decisions. Is Richt here to actually win? or just to scratch the play calling itch he has had since giving up play calling duties at UGA. I for one would LOVE the answer to this question.
I'm sure some of you are saying "WHAT ABOUT RECRUITING!" Let's be honest, do you think we're getting Neal? Rique? Is Haselwood jumping for joy to play in this offense? Last time I checked we're 20th in recruiting so we're on pace to finish about 18ish. Golden and even Shannon, who were routinely going 7-6, were able to put together top 20 classes so our recruiting really won'take that big of a hit if we went 7-5 TBH.
I like to look LONG term. Going 9-3 will be great in the moment but going 7-5 could lead to changes that makes us a real threat to Clemson and the CFB playoff. The Elephant in the room is Richt's offense and we all know it. 80th in offense with studs like Thomas, Jordan, Homer, Dallas? GTFOH.
Ask yourself what do you really want? To go 9-3, maybe finish 10-3 with the likelihood of Richt returning as OC or-
Go 7-5 Richt gives up play calling, fires Searels (and maybe Richt Jr) and hires a more creative, innovative offensive mind?
