We need to get off Blake Baker’s ***

Interesting use of the word “worked”. I generally use it to describe a successful effort. I guess stopping a non running QB from running did “work” in the “I ate super sized servings of lead paint as a child” sense of the word.

The goal was to force him left where he was by far his least effective and make him beat us throwing at his weakest, not just to stop him from running.

It worked very well. Garvin did his job perfectly. Franks had only 8 yards on 7 carries, made one huge throw the entire game and threw two interceptions, including the one late that gave us one final shot in the fourth quarter.

Back out the gimme TD from the muffed punt and the Turds score 17 points that game, something even the CIS hate crew would be satisfied with.

If my aunt had a **** she’d be my uncle.

In other words you don't know **** and this is how you handle your stupid posts being debunked.
You idiot we lost on 3rd downs and every major “money down”. Your point is idiotic. In key situational downs we fail routinely. If you like stats and not winning we got the right man.

We take our best assets and play them in roles that don’t suit their strengths. That isn’t winning football. Enjoy .500 season and “winning” arguments on CiS.

He wasn’t 22 yards away. Not even close. He lined up 11 yards away from Howell but started his blitz before the ball was snapped. That blatant lie renders the rest of your post pointless.

My bad - like 18-19 yards away. 12 from where he started running. The QB is dropping another 2-3. And another 3-4 off the hash....hard to see from this angle.

What's pointless is the rest of your argument. So in my haste i overestimated the distance. It's still a blitz from 15-20 yards away on 4th and 17. Makes zero sense. Double A gap makes more if you want the QB to p!ss himself and unload early for an easy tackle and turnover on downs.

I don’t care what anybody says, this defense is actually very good. There are certainly some things I’d like them to do a little differently, and it’s not championship caliber like the 2018 defense, but it is a very good defense.

Total Defense #13
Yards/Play #15
Scoring Defense #17
Rushing Defense #6
Yards/Rush #5
Rushing TDs #13
Passing Defense #49
Yards/Pass Attempt #47
Passing TDs #20
Sacks/Game #29
TFLs/Game #12
Opponent 3rd Down% #4

Surprise, surprise, the area where we are struggling the most is in pass defense where we are young and trying to recover from losing 3 franchise guys to the NFL.

Side note: We also need to get off Jarren’s ***. Kid is top 25 in nearly every statistical category, including yards/attempt despite all the *****ing about the deep ball.

The difference between this team being 4-0 and 2-2 is the OL, period. Expect to see Enos use a game plan more similar to the UNC game plan going forward, which was a very well called game.

Edit: Removed S&P+ ranking as that was a 2018 stat. 2019 S&P+ isn’t available yet.
OL and Bubba Baxa. 3-1 includes a bad fumble recovery call agaisnt unc

Wow, I'm a homer but you're way off. We lost UNC bc of the defense. Felipe franks being absolutely trash saved us against the gators. Trask would torch this D.

BS - it was both. I posted in this thread with pictures. 4th and 17

It was Bandy for lining up so far inside the slot he was in chase mode the whole time.

It was also on the coaches for not only blitzing Gil from 22 yards away (yes, 22 yards on 4th and 17) but also pinching with our best pass rusher in Garvin (so Pinckney could run another slow developing blitz looping around the right right side of the D) and running a slow a stunt with the NT and Patchan. Stunts work between a 3-tech and 5-tech closer together with the 3-tech running both linemen off, but what the **** you doing running a stunt with a 1-tech and 5-tech on a 4th and 17? Get to him as soon as possible to make him throw early, then tackle. Game is over.

Poor call. Poor execution. That is why loses ballgames.

So it worked right?

Man CIS is the king of stat watching. Yeah the stats look good but we stink on third and fourth down and do dumb stuff all the time. Jarren has great stats but he still needs to do more. Quit watching just the stats
Fully agree that we're terrible on fourth down... but we're really good on third downs. That's not stat watching, that's game watching (and just so happens to be backed up by the stats).

We're definitely a different type of good defense this year than last year. Last year, we would give up big plays on some third downs, but get big sacks on others so fourth down wouldn't be an option. This year, we're not giving up the big play but we're not getting the big sack through four games. The result is that we're getting stops on third but leaving a conversion on fourth down as a realistic possibility. Except for that fake punt call by Mullen. That fourth down play call was just a pure surprise - and that blame goes on special teams.

Watch the tape, that conversion was on the secondary, not because we ran a delayed blitz. UNC’s primary target was supposed to be bracketed and the secondary busted.

It was both. It was bad enough that the WR caught the ball on 2 people, but the blitz was so bad and ill timed that the LT blocked 2 people!!!

LOL...again, the blitz had absolutely nothing to do with them converting. There was a coverage bust from a young secondary in their second game of the season. Simple as that.
