We need the defense to step up in a massive way on the 24th

All I've ever said us that I'd take the over on 7.5 wins. Its also more likely with basically the same defensive staff and a better offensive staff.
8 wins isn't hard I imagine but that is not all you said. You implied that +6 wins wasn’t unlikely because UF did so. That’s a lot more than +1.

It's not unlikely. Its very attainable given our schedule.

Edit: To be clear, a 10 win season, not +6 which, while not impossible, isn't as likely.

Latest scrimmage bump.

Mannys presser confirms what I've been saying and what should be obvious. Even if the O is tremendously improved over the course of the season, it's likely to really struggle in game 1.

Imo Perry is eliminated from the qb race. Every report says he's still the most turnover prone. We can't have those self inflicted injuries or faraway looks anymore as diaz said. We need someone who will manage the game well and keep us in it until the 4th, when their starting DBs are gassed and we can just let it rip. Can be Jdubs or Tate.

Either way, defense needs to eat like a homeless person at a golden coral buffet.

One leveler is Diaz coached with Mullens for a couple years as his DC, so he knows Mullens’ tendencies and that offense in and out.

On the other hand, Mullens knows how to coach against a Diaz styled defense.

Secondary is pretty young and will likely be prone to a couple busted coverages. Diaz has been harping on keeping the explosive plays to a minimum with good tackling, and it sounds like they're doing a good job of that.

The DBs need to show out. We know front 7 will be great. I actually think by end of the year we'll have a better backfield than at any point the last few years, and a better overall defense. That's my hot take.

But again, the point I keep stressing in this thread is were talking game 1. There is no time to gel and get reps. It's gotta be 100% full steam lock down.

Our D is going to be top 5 . I have very little worry about that. Our O will take a month or so to get going but UF is the only possible loss before it does. I for one am not going to lose my mind if we lose on August 24th in the first game as long as we are in it. We can't have another LSU game like last season though. With that said I think we might actually win on the 24th in a 20-17 type game.

They did worse than suck in the last game they played, and were being abused in the scrimmage. So until proven otherwise, yes, at the very least they can't be counted on to be very good.
You talking about one half of a scrimmage game... A SCRIMMAGE GAME! ONE HALF! Where the defense pretty much knows what you're doing.

Calm down

Before I get jumped, let me just preface this by saying I believe we'll have at the very least a very decent offense towards the end of the season. Much better than any we've had in the previous several years. It was so bad, it has no choice but to improve under Enos. In addition, neither does our entire season rest on the UF game. We can lose, and still have a very good (arguably not great) season.

But

We need to beat the Gator. I quite literally cannot tolerate that program and I hope the vast majority of the fans and all the players feel the same way. Those colors disgust me to my core. They cause my soul itself to recoil. The fans.... good lawd. Has there ever been such arrogant filth gracing the Earth? They cannot be allowed a victory.

Unfortunately as it stands, reports at this stage are confirming what shouldn't at all be a surprise: The offense is going to be rough going out the gate. New scheme, new QB, porous Oline so devoid of depth we're starting a true freshman (not an indictment of him but of the upper classmen). They may win us games down the stretch, but they will not win us this game. The defense has to, like they largely did against ND in 17 and against FSU last year.

All the offense, and especially the QB, have to do is not lose us the game with turnovers. Take what is given, no playing hero. If we're going off of the first scrimmage alone (we are obviously not) then that would be Tate. Give me the sacks over turn overs any day but especially this day. The D Line needs to feast like their eternal souls depend on it. The backfield has to play above and beyond what their experience dictates. I have faith that it can be done. But let's not get our hopes up that there will be some offensive miracle the other side of the ball on day 1. Defense has been the life and soul of this team since Manny arrived and it will continue to be until the O proves otherwise on the field.

TLDR: Offense sucks, won't suck forever, but sucks now until proven otherwise and the defense is going to have to play lights out to get us the W in Orlando.

What we really need is for you to take a chill pill on starting new threads. Preferably a permanent one.

Either way... we still haven't played a game yet... you're still talking about scrimmages

So an offense that was terrible last year, is installing a totally new and more complicated offense and most likely a new QB, and has been doing so terrible in scrimmages it's left the HC visibly distraught, is just going to light up a top 10 team in week 1?

Hahahahahaha

Offense was only reported as being bad yesterday for one half. Who said the other scrimmages were bad? Not that anyone said they were great or good but no one said they were bad. At this stage the defense should be ahead anyways.

And anything will be better than what we did last year... you actually think we'll look worse or the same on the 24th as we did last year? If you was to call plays on the 24th it would be better than last year! There's your joke for ya 😂😂😂

May be overly simplistic but I think it will come down to our ability to run the ball. We can we have a good chance to win we can't and we don't.

It was an *** whopping for one half, with a few positives and some fight in the 2nd. That's straight from Mannys mouth. So yes, bad.

Saying the offense will be better than last year is the lowest bar you could have reached for as you yourself pointed out. That does not mean the O will be anything close to actually being *good* in their first game of the season against a top 10 opponent, which is the entire point of the thread.

They will, 19-14 canes!!! Safety and a defensive touchdown will be the difference. The offense needs a few more weeks to get right.
