We need the defense to step up in a massive way on the 24th

If our Ends bust nuts, our interior DL holds, our LBs balance run and coverage and hold the middle of the field, and our striker does his part,

And if our CBs cover well and avoid big mistakes, then our safeties stand a chance of picking up a couple picks. DE pressure can also lead to plenty of mistakes, even bad handoffs.

If all that happens, and our punter does his job, and our ST coverage is sound, then the game will come down to Enos can figure out hot to stuff our TEs down their throats. Tease Thomas, pound Mallory and Jordan. If Pope steps up or Cam breaks a run, we’ll be in the mix. 1 defensive score and we are right there.

Do not underestimate the fear a QB will have when Rousseau’s comin at him and he turns to see Hill. Dammit, gimme Garvin. No eff that, not him! Oh **** coach, stop calling these multiple read plays. Call some quick hits, spread the field. [Bandy pick 6]

I concur. Need a defensive score and to rattle felipe's soul for us to be in this.

Feleipe Franks got outplayed by Kyle Trask in their scrimmage per 247

Every post thus far failed to point out that UF is only returning one starter on their OL from last year. So it could be a struggle for them on offense as well. They are returning about the same as we’re returning except they have the more experienced QB if Perry doesn’t get the nod in game 1. It’s even across the board but I think we have the better defense!

It's amazing to me how UF went from 4 wins to 10 with the same talent and a brand new head coach, but we won't for some reason.

Franks is statistically a steaming **** against pressure. Bodes well.

And yes Jordan/Mallory should never leave the field.

Maybe we will. Maybe we won’t. But if you’re amazed by what you wrote, you’re not thinking very clearly. You don’t go +6 in wins for ‘some reason.’ It takes a lot of work and things going your way (on top of a lot of bad stuff the prior season). And those things don’t just happen because you happened to have a new coach. New coaches underwhelm all the time. So the idea that because X happened somewhere else, it will happened here is as silly as the alternative notion that because Y did not happen somewhere else, it won’t happen here.

The reasonable expectation for a first time HC at Miami isn’t ‘get lucky.’ We all hope that Manny is ‘that guy’. We’ll see. We tell ourselves Richt was checked out, the OL isnt that bad, etc. We’ll see.

Agreed, but there's a segment of the population here that believes it's an impossibility. My point is that we can see it has happened elsewhere recently and we have a schedule that should also allow it to happen here, given the proper coaching and effort, combined with a little luck on the injury front.

So, we're just going to completely ignore the fact that UF has ZERO tape of Miami's offense and has no way of actually game planning to stop them? There's certainly a positive to having a brand new offense in the first game of the year. Enos is going to catch them with something they can't see coming at some point. Even if the offense isn't super consistent moving the ball, there's enough playmakers on offense to bust a big play or two, especially when the defense has no idea what's coming.

There's no doubt that the defense is going to have to bring their A game to win against UF but this whole idea that the offense "sucks" is garbage and completely unfounded.

They have plenty of tape from Enos as many previous stops and what most of our players can do, but point taken. He's skilled enough that we can expect some creativity to throw them off. Assuming no/few turn overs and a stellar D that would probably do it.

My point isn't to claim that the offense sucks, it is that they have sucked and expecting some miraculous turn around in game 0 against a top 10 team is pretty unrealistic at best. It would be a turn around above and beyond what Diaz was able to do with the defense which was crazy as it is.

If your only point is that it is statistically possible, then *shrugs*.

But what you wrote sure seemed to make a different point.

All I've ever said us that I'd take the over on 7.5 wins. Its also more likely with basically the same defensive staff and a better offensive staff.
