We just got a lil thinner

Per Barry Jackson:

"As we first reported, the agency involved is South Beach Exotic Car Rentals. The company's owner, Juan Caballero, initially insisted to me, over several minutes, that he knows nothing about the UM football team and doesn't know the name of a single player.

Caballero hasn't returned calls since, but his social media messages - posted on Canes message boards - suggest at least a familiarity with specific UM players."

does he post here???

Does a menacing figure named JuanFromLittleHavana ring a bell?

Lol that knuckledragger couldn't run a churro stand much less a car rental company.

vegas line on over under wins looked out of line a few weeks back but someone knew there was potential trouble with key players

The fact that this has dragged on this long doesn't bode well at all, especially with these nerds from the northeast that don't know anything about football on the student discipline council.

Yall know as well as I do that AQM and Grace are both likely gone. Do you not pay attention to the way this university handles stuff like this? Every piece of news that comes out just sounds worse than the last bit.

I remember how Shalala used to handle things. Since the new President came in it's been totally different. Tell me I'm wrong

What example do you have of Frenk handling infractions or misconduct differently than during Shalala's regime? Walton? He was suspended indefinitely until the BS charges ended up being rightfully dropped. And this incident? Three players involved. One already kicked off of the team. The other two's cases are being dragged out in an eerily similar fashion to AQM's slapping of his roommate incident. This has more to due with the institution than the president. And UM has proven recently that it doesn't tolerate stuff like this. With that being said, if either of them play another down for Miami (especially AQM), I will be thrilled.

These things never seem to work out for us, I expect AQM and Grace to be kicked off the team. The football gods refuse to let us enjoy prosperity

Dude is doing exactly what he should! "I know nothing" isn't a good move for the kids, but for everyone else, its exactly what you want.

Give them two games each and move on

Why? So the NCAA can get involved and find 1 small piece of evidence saying they took impermissible benefits, which makes them ineligible... Period. No questions asked. Then vacate every win of the season.

Wish it was as simple as 2-3 games. If there's any evidence they took ANYTHING they're probably gone for the season. If they can't find evidence but prove they didn't cooperate, then you'll see 2-3-4 games or something

All of this speculation and guessing is getting everyone's panties in a bunch. Just sit back, relax, and wait until we hear more news.

Jacory, Spence and the rest of those guys took stuff and didn't get kicked out. They got suspended. Aldarius Johnson didn't talk and got kicked off. This isn't all or nothing. There are degrees of punishment. It's more likely they'll be done for not cooperating than for actually doing something and admitting to it.

It's not like that. If they took benefits, it needs to be determined exactly what they took. Then, they have to pay it back. The NCAA decides the punishment based on the amount they took and how egregious the whole thing was.

Last year, Laremy Tunsil took $3K, got a free car to use and a bunch of other free benefits. They gave him a 7 game suspension and made him pay back all the benefits.

If this has been going on since January, if the compliance office felt they were fully cooperating it would already be over in my opinion. They may not find any evidence but if they do/have already done, I don't see it ending well.

I have no idea what it costs to rent a luxury car or how long they had it to even begin to guess what their punishment would be if it played out like that. I'm hoping for 3-4 games max for both but it's been going on too long to feel good about it

Lol, Grace is at practice with the 1 team and has been. This doesn't gets you suspended for a year!!!! Burn this thread. Jacory and others did worst and got 2 games. I see maybe two games, but not the whole year.

I'm smelling suspensions on the way. But it'll be a joint deal with the NCAA if UM determines that the rentals were impermissible benefits. We really have no clue what they're looking for or if the kids are insisting that they didn't get anything for free or what the deal really is.

If there were no impermissible benefits, then the only reason they'll be suspended is if UM overreacts and suspends them for something like not being forthright with them.

This is a two-prong deal here: Did they take impermissible benefits? If they did, then how much did they take? Then they need to work with the NCAA to determine a proper punishment.

If UM thinks they took impermissible benefits there's no way they'll let them play in a game until it's worked out. They just won't and shouldn't risk it.

Jacory and that whole group got anywhere from 1-6 games. Mostly 1 and Vernon got 6 for $1200. I'd imagine this costs more than $500 to rent a car like that not even knowing how long they rented it.
