In all seriousness, one of our biggest weakness last year (until our final four games of the season) was that our style on offense was very slow paced. We were a team that wanted to control the line of scrimmage and go on long runs to wear out the opponent. This is a great strategy against equal or slightly more/less talented teams. But when we are much more talented then teams we kept them in games they had no business in and put us in position of an upset.

If you have the ball less times then you don't score as much, its not rocket science. These long drives establishing the line of scrimmage hurts us from having blowouts. The Bethune Cookman game is the perfect example. Yes, we won 45-3, but 45 points against them is actually subpar. We were going on the same drives against Bethune as we did at times against Ohio State: long drives taking up half the quarter.

I wonder why the folks that establish point spreads think our incredible talent will score at will. Occasionally we can't help but run up scores but usually in games versus FCS teams. Of course, when we have a spread like Saturday if I bet we won't cover we will cover and vice versa. My wife said my bets don't have that much influence but she doesn't get the mystery of sports like I do...of course my lucky hat and shirt have control of wins and losses and mine overrides most since my Ibis has a PIPE. But I'm drifting off here...I think the reason we don't blow teams out is because the raging criticism Ara Parseghian (sp?) made when we beat N D in 1985 58 to 7 even though we were down to cheerleaders playing and still scored. I haven't researched scores but based on last year we beat teams yet had mostly very close games.

Friday night I don't think we beat the spread but win. I know, last year I said we'd blow out Indiana and bet the house yet you still won if you took my advice because we beat the spread...sigh!

AI (ChatGPT) Against the Spread Canes data:
The best reliable figure I found is for 2019–2022, where Miami went:
SeasonATS
20196–7
20205–6
20216–6
20222–10
2019–2219–29
That's only 39.6% ATS — quite poor

What I’m about to write is not a rebuttal of what you said. I agree with you.

The story that was being told was that the slow it down philosophy on offense was in order to allow the defense more time to rest between drives because some of the staff felt the year before (2024) our defense got gashed a lot because our offense scored so fast and the D never got a chance to recover.

Sorry for the run on sentence. That’s not my take; rather the one I heard repeatedly.
