They offered Wannstache $2M/year when Butch left. That would have put him in the top 5 salaries at that point. UM also paid Coker more than anyone was making when they extended him after that hot start.

Butch would take the job for < $1MM/year. Safe hire as he is proven not only at the Collegiete ranks, but with this exact program. Looking at his coaching tree and you will see a bunch of his guys have been or are currently Head Coaches in the NFL which means he can spot young emerging coaching talent, which is equally important to identify on-field talent.

Anyone else, and you are basically in a crap-shoot with results.

Do not want Butch but he is better than Golden but if you remember he was a horrible X's and O's coach..he is more of an good judge of talent...Gimme and X's and O's guy

If I'm hiring Butch, I don't hire him to out strategize the opposing team. He was a maniac on the sidelines and his teams were ripped for playing too conservative on both sides. What we would hire Butch for is to change the culture at UM, heighten expectations and build a great talent base. After that, then you can hire an Xs and Os guy. I think that model can work because I don't think Butch would coach more than 5 years at his next gig. Hire Butch along with a talented coordinator who you can groom later.

Why do we keeping talking about butch's coaching like it is still 1999? Seriously he was a first time head coach. You guys at like he can't improve game day coaching in 16 years. I didn't watch much unc but that would be a much better indicator of the butch you are getting than the one that coached here. Plus almost all coaches sick at in game situations. Look around and see all the gaffes these guys make. Tom Coughlin has two super bowls and throws on third down instead of running the clock. That is the last thing in concerned about. Andy Reid might be the worst game e day coach ever but he wins a ton

Total Assistant Salaries is roughly $3 million plus the $1.5 Million for the head coach which brings the total coaching staff salaries to $4.5Million. Imagine this guy sitting in a recruits living room telling them how he made such -n-such NFL player an all pro LB last year an now he wants to coach that recruit at Miami. Our Current LB class would stay intact. McCurley could move up into the DC role in 2-3 years when Aranda moves on to a head coaching position, after having won a National Championship at Miami.
