Or the high-profile recruiting losses will really hurt.

247Sports recently released projected depth charts for Alabama, Florida and Georgia. All four of Bama’s projected starting DBs (Surtain, Jobe, Battle and Wright) were from South Florida. Three of Florida’s starters (Wilson, Elam and Davis) were from South Florida. Finally, two of Georgia’s starters (Tyrique and Campbell) were from South Florida, along with their top backup (Wilson).

There is plenty of talent in Miami’s defensive backfield. Eleven total four stars. But given what has left the region, we need Rumph and Banda to coach our guys to an elite level. 37th in yards per pass attempt is not good enough, especially considering our pass rush. Anything less than a Top 10 finish is a failure.

Good post. This is why it drives me nuts when people try to defend our DB recruiting with "bUt We GoT aLL tHeSe 4 sTarS!" Context is key, and the context is that we have a ton of recruiting misses right in our backyard. We shouldn't have depth issues at CB.

Sickening

Especially when you consider Rumph coaches Surtain and Campbell.....

We’ve known this since 2016. We haven’t been able to hold on to any elite db down here and we’ve known who the studs were and that they would start wherever they went and would be drafted high as well. With the exception of the Wilson and Elam we tried and failed. They didn’t want to do down here what they are doing somewhere else.
EDIT: We tried with Elam but that was a done deal from the jump.

We have to hope Couch or Williams step up & take Ivey's spot, he's the weakest link in the Secondary.

I think with Hall, Bolden (when healthy), Keontra Smith, Jalen Harrell & Tae Williams we could have a very good Safety group.

Don't give AF what anybody says, but I still think we should go get Meiko Dotson.

A couple people I’ve talked to on the inside think that Ivey has the highest upside and will ultimately be the best CB.

Obviously, it’s just their opinion, and they realize that Ivey had a very rough start. But I thought it was interesting.

A lot of it is bad evaluation...I'm saying, I don't give a **** what a site's screen tells me, I didn't believe DJ Ivey was a 4* then, and he certainly hasn't played like one.

And just think if you weight it for the brutally bad slate of passing offenses and overall QB we faced, because that particular strength of schedule is no higher than high 60s, and prob closer to the 80s. You can make an arguement we faced about 1.5 real QB last year (with the one making his 2nd start...Any of the others were just not terrible, and some of those were underclassmen.

I haven't given up on Gurvan Hall, he has his moments and didn't miss many tackles after September, he prevented big plays if nothing else...I like Bubba Bolden, and think he can be excellent if he comes back well from injury. I think Al Blades will leave here a late round pick, but I don't think he's a #1 CB on any good Miami Hurricanes team...Carter is average at best, Ivey should be a 5th or 6th corner. Bandy was average at best last year.

Hopefully Couch, Williams, K.Smith step up.

Again, when you realize we played NOTHING in terms of opposing passing offenses, you realize that secondary was pretty mediocre. Especially when you consider that they are playing behind a very good DL (The pass rush wasn't great in some games, no doubt...But still better than most of CFB)

His lack of recovery speed is troubling.

His main issue is he doesn't makeup for what he lacks in speed with top notch technique, his technique is just as poor as his natural traits.

His worst game was vs Duke, he got beat like a rented mule & was trailing behind every WR he covered.

I think Rumph likes him a great deal so he'll be the automatic starter but he's going to be a problem for us in coverage if we don't wise up & play someone better at that spot.

Al Jr is going to be **** good & is by far the best CB imo.
