We Are Ahead of Schedule

Nothing worse than a loss in a game you should have won. No way to spin it. We should have won the game and this one stings.

But, we are also ahead of schedule. I remember the team Mario took over. In no way did I ever think we'd be complaining about losing a the National Championship in Year 4. I always thought this was a 5 Year climb at a minimum.

Things to improve:

1. Mario's come a long way in his Game Day coaching, but he still has to get the penalty issue fixed. It continues to haunt his teams.

2. We are still lacking explosion on offense.

3. I ain't saying fire the man, but Dawson needs help. We didn't play a good game of offense this entire playofff run.

No reason why we shouldn't be right in the thick of it come next season and beyond. I look at this season as a HUGE missed opportunity, but also a season in which we were playing with house money.

Ahead of schedule after losing to Indiana is a wild thing to say
OSU, Oregon, Alabama, AM, Florida, Notre Dame, olemiss, FSU, etc ,etc. all wish they were we were right now.

We choked it away, yes, but let's not act like Indiana was scrubs. Less stars? Sure.

It's on us to get better. We are competing at a different level than the last 25

I’m shocked that you of all people did not understand what I meant

But thanks for listing the other college football teams for me

I mean did you expect us to play for a Natty this year? Most of us was cool with 10 wins and making the playoff. We are ahead of schedule, regroup and run this **** back next year. Our players especially the young guys got a lot of good experience and I imagine this will light an even bigger fire under their asses. If we get Mensah, Seaton and Wilson or at least two of these guys it will go a long way next yr. We'll prob win the ACC finally and do work again.

“Ahead of schedule” is meaningless

Im not surprised people are getting in their feelings about it

Yeah, I get what OP is saying and I have no doubt they mean well, but it's a really tough pill to swallow

I forgot how badly 2nd place feels
Miami is in a great place for the future

I’m not even mad about the game last night. Indiana came up with a ton of clutch plays and I respect it

Saying ahead of schedule is just weird. It’s probably too emotional around here so people probably think I’m criticizing or *****ing. I’m not at all.

When this team made the playoffs, it almost felt like we were playing with house money. I was just glad to be there and relishing in the fact ND got ****ed over in the process. But I agree completely. Once this team beat Taint and Ole ****, just being relevant again didn't mean all that much. We all wanted this badly and second place feels awful.

It's a pill you swallow and reject. But these things take time. Even Indiana lost in the Playoffs last year. OSU lost some crazy ones with Day before winning. Michigan. UGA. Clemson.

You gotta climb.

All I'm saying is, I didn't even think we'd be in position to climb.

Anyone on this board who said they thought in August we'd be playing in the last game of the season and upset bc it's a game we should have won is lying. And if they did say it, they were trolling.

Come back next season with a vengeance just like '01.

I picked 9-3 so we far surpassed my expectations

We won games in November. Games on the road. Playoff games

Mario shut me up

Being “ahead of schedule” feels a little too much like the stuff we heard when we were getting slapped around by Middle Tennessee

I think saying that is just unnecessary

I’m gonna miss this group. This team was special. But we are gonna be in the hunt next year for sure

So don’t take the schedule comment like I’m down about the team. I’m not at all

I know, I kinda jumped the gun you're good. Hope we fckn kill everyone next yr especially ND. Hopefully the ACC does right by us and realize we're their best team and treat us accordingly but I doubt it

Re: penalties, I am convinced we have calls against us because of our reputation, and less because of coaching. Put Saban on our sideline and I don’t think results are different (ok, maybe a little but you get the point).
Sometimes

If we are being real though Jakobe Thomas should have been out that entire game. Textbook targeting in front of everyone on the QB.

I probably should have read the room a little better as well. Hesitated posting much today because I’ll be honest, I hate this team lost because it’s special, but I’m at peace because our program has the foundation we’ve needed

I was at game and didn’t see that one play. I’m the least the-refs-have-it-against-us guy there is, but it constantly feels like our adversary is judged on a different standard than us.

@CaneMutiny06 made post, nothing is guaranteed.. higher chance we are forcing our grand kids in 20 years to watch canes games

Realistically it’s likely going to be a very long time before we get back to the big dance.

Loser of the national championship game dating back to 2000:
2000: FSU- didn’t return until 13 years later
2001: Nebraska- never returned, 24 years and counting
2002: Miami- returned 23 years later
2003: OU- returned in 04 with largely the same team/QB (lost),
2004:’OU- returned 4 years later (lost)
2005 USC- never returned, 20 years and counting
2006 OSU- returned in 07 (lost),
2007 OSU- did not return for 7 years (won)
2008 OU- has never been back, 17 years and counting
2009 Texas- has never been back, 16 years and counting
2010 Oregon- returned 4 years later ( lost)
2011 LSU- returned 8 years later and won
2012 Notre Dame- returned 12 years later and lost
2013 Auburn- has never been back, 12 years and counting
2014 Oregon - has not been back 11 years later
2015 Clemson- returned and won the next year with largely same team/QB
2016 Bama- returned next season and won with largely same team/QB
2017 UGA- returned 4 years later and won
2018 Bama- returned two years later and won
2019 Clemson- has never returned, 6 years and counting
2020 OSU- returned 4 years later and won
2021 Bama- has not returned, 4 years and counting
2022 TCU- has not returned and won’t . 3 years and counting
2023 Washington- has not returned, 2 years
2024 ND- did not return

I’m with you. It was a bizarre officiated game

Cignetti absolutely *****ed his way into several penalties early in the second half

He took time out of his interview on the way to the lockerroom to literally cry about it on tv
