We’ve been debating…

…between two coaches who will be ranked in the Top 10 to end the regular season.

That tells me two things. First, this program is in a much better spot than it’s been in the past. Second, the new AD would be suicidal to bring back Manny another year.
Wait is him returning an actual option? Sigh

What day does manny’s buyout decrease? Day before or day of is when AD is hired.

I would agree. Season is over. Announce new AD on Mon or Tues. Fire Diaz within a few days. Conduct immediate phone call interviews with the two candidates. Find out what the dollars are. Take a few days to finalize funds with the major donors, especially that new billionaire. Sign contract by early next week. 2 days for the **** test and announce in the middle of the following week. Thus, have a new AD by Mon or Tuesday and have coach in place by the end of the following week. Lane or Mario, whoever wants the job most and after we find out who will be the DC they want to bring in. Clauses reducing the payout to Lane if he leaves early.

It's a never ending cycle.... Were going to bring Diaz back and the entire fan base will go ape **** until Diaz makes a flashy OC/DC hire and brings in a couple portal studs. Fans will move on and show up for the players. Diaz then goes on to have a 9-3 season and wins the costal but then loses 48-34 in the ACC Championship game and losses a January Bowl game to Baylor to finish the season 9-5

It's now 2023 and ACC QB of the year Tyler Van Dyke returns for his final season to lead the canes to a national championship and Win the Heisman! TVD leads us to a Top 25 offense yet we somehow finish 8-4 and then he leaves for the NFL.

I have no given you the inside scoop on how the next 2 years will go
This. And that's the problem, Diaz has shown that his teams play down to competition and have no fighting chance against better teams. Keeping him here prolongs us being irrelevant which is dangerous given the landscape of college football. If we don't do this now we risk not being competitive ever again.

I was super excited about Kiffin... but every day, a bit less so. His recruiting is somewhat suspect. As mentioned, his current class is ranked LAST in the entire SEC (I don't count Vanderbilt) without a lot of low-hanging fruit out there to close on. Again, not 8th, 10th, or even 12th. 13th in the conference. That gives me a LOT of pause. MISS ST is a lock to have out-recruited him in-state when its all said and done. While we as Canes found that interview where he basically made fun of Mississippi culture and people funny, I think it was pretty classless to do as the HBC at Ole Miss. And I wonder if it might hurt recruiting, as I doubt the HS coaches thought much of it. Showed poor judgment. We also saw an article today where a number of MISS HS coaches ripped him and his recruiting. So just how much has he really outgrown the immaturity rap?

Also, he won with someone else's players this year including a seasoned, highly talented NFL QB who had offers from everyone. He is losing a lot of the roster and I wonder how they will perform next year, and I wonder if he knows it too, and is trying to dip while he still has shine. I'd love to be able to peer into the future and see how they would do next year with him. I'll bet he's salivating over TVD.

He kind of went 7-2 because 3/4th of his OOC schedule was atrocious. Tulane, Austin Peay and Liberty (don't start with Liberty, I get it). His marquee OOC game was against Louisville (6-6, 4-4). He's gotten a lot of mileage off of the win over TAMU, who in the end finished 4-4* in the SEC. But it was a nice win. But like the rest of his top three wins, he had them at home. And TAMU lost three games this year so far and are losing to sub-.500 LSU as I type this. *EDIT: lost to LSU, finished 8-4 (4-4).

I am not taking a stand or anything. I am just realizing that a lot of things fell into place for him this year. He has a lot of upside and did a great job at FAU fwiw. Just volunteering some contrarian thoughts as we all do our fanboy due diligence on the candidates.

The dollars have been accounted for per another thread. @Brooklyndee discussed it.

Isn't it a three candidate pool, Manny, Lane and the field?

It‘s possible it ends up being the field.

He had a Top 20 Class last year. Kiffin has been a good recruiter In the past, he also loves the portal. I wouldn't worry about recruiting with Kiffin

Debating and hiring is far different
