Washington Fires HC Lake

I wouldn’t say top job, they were really only a good program because of how Chris Petersen built them up, before the Petersen era Rick Neuheisel had one good season there & before him the Legend Don James (Saban’s mentor) had them rolling in the early 90’s & even won a Natty in 91.

But all the other coaches in between like Tyrone Willingham & Sark all failed pretty hard at Washington.

On it’s face it’s not a good job, it can be a good job but it takes a certain type of coach to run it, they don’t have great access to recruits, although the Northwest does have some talented players, but Washington basically has to recruit locally in Washington & Oregon, plus reach into Cali, Nevada & Utah (for the Polynesian kids) in order to really maximize their recruiting pool.

But UW is a program that needs a really smart coach who can do more with less, the kind of coach that isn’t reliant upon loading up on 4-star players, but can find gems out of JUCO & Grad transfers & play smart well executed football, they’re a team that wins with detail & precision by being well coached, they’ll never out athlete or out talent anybody.

Guys like Kalen DeBoer, Tyson Helton, Blake Anderson would all fit there if they were interested.

Jonathan Smith, the current HC at Oregon St who is a Chris Petersen disciple from the Boise St days & was his OC for 3 years at UW, he would do well going back to UW as well, but idk if he’d wanna leave Or St because he’s an Or st alum as well.
Thank you

Better academics than Oregon, but is as attractive as Oregon without Phil Knight money. My in laws live in Seattle, fine place to visit for a day or two and see the aquarium and zoo, but the city has devolved into a **** hole of drug addicts and bums, yet still costs way too much to live there. Would not be attractive for a good HC
Yeah Seattle & Portland are very interesting cities...

Beautiful scenery, eclectic hippie like culture, mixed with a Silicon Valley 2.0 kinda vibe, then you have the people who have been there since before the Tech boom & are way more folksy, but it’s also way too expensive & is a Meth/Heroin utopia lol.

It’s a program & environment for a coach who isn’t really interested in the spotlight, just wants to coach & stay quiet.

UCLA? What did I miss? They are 6-4 with a dumpster fire currently in USC left and a bad Cal team that they will likely track meet. Why will they probably be looking?

I don’t think they’ll fire him this year, but their new AD Martin Jarmond didn’t hire Chip, so unless you’re super successful as a HC whenever the AD didn’t hire you you’re job is in jeopardy.

Plus it’s Chip Kelly, you know he wears out his welcome after about 3-4 years lol.

Facts

Surprised I haven’t seen him mentioned by someone on here as a candidate yet.

Most beautiful stadium I have ever been to, other than the OB. But in all seriousness, the marina with the mega yachts hosting tailgates, the mountains in the back, right on the water, green everywhere. Too bad we lost that **** game, but it was really an incredible place to see a game.

I think it is a pretty good job. Good facilities, new-ish 80k seat stadium, large alumni base. But agree it takes a certain type of guy.

DeBoer would be great there. Jay Norvell from Nevada. I love Jonathan Smith but he has a nice thing going at Oregon State.

They are going to be looking for a pac-12, west coast guy. This opening shouldn't affect our coaching search much, if at all.

Used to spend alot of time in Seattle and for a while it was one of my favorite cities and still is honestly. Absolutely beautiful in the summer time too but it has definitely fallen off some recently. And as you mentioned, still too **** expensive.
I mean who doesn’t want a $1 million dollar apartment to park their Prius in front of.

Originally from Miami, have been living in the Seattle area off and on since 2004. You nailed it, beautiful in the summer, dreary right around now and way too expensive. Actually in the market for a home, sh*t boxes go for over 500k and that’s a 30min drive from the city.

Good athletes do come from the area, especially QBs

Add "... and a bum sleeping on sidewalk in front of the building with the million dollar apartment and dropping deuces in the grass, but you can't ask the police to do anything because city law says it is illegal to disturb a homeless person."

If Chip leaves UCLA he’ll be on a lot of posters’ wish list.

And if Miami hires Mario a lot of Oregon fans will clamour for Chip 2.0 in Eugene, OR.
