see the comparisons between Ward 2024, Beck 2025 and Mensah 2025. Where does Mensah end up in 2026? Does he reach or surpass Ward's stats? If he's nearer to Beck, it would be disappointing considering that he was better than Beck except for efficiency and sacks.

I think the biggest factor that is unknown is the O-line in front of him. They will surely be better than the line he had last year, by a significant margin, but I’m not sure they will be as good as the lines both Ward and Beck played behind.

Then again, Mensah does have MUCH better playmakers than either of them had.

The bump in O-line play, and the added playmakers, should mean that he gets much closer to Ward than Beck, IMO.

Its going to be interesting. Better oline and tightened play only helps this passing attack and run game.
Elite blocking from the tightbend position and timely catches will be needed to help this offense out.

The stable of backs UM have to go with this passing attack is scary. Numbers can go crazy if they stay locked in.

Unfortunately, the defense Cam had was bad, forcing us to play a little more up-tempo, high scoring games than I'm sure Mario prefers. If this defense plays like we expect, I wouldn't expect to see too many shoot outs. That'll hurt his stats.

He will have better numbers than cam because he will play multiple post season games

i forgot to the mention, i thought it was a given, but it appears not to be, that the stats are based on the 12 game regular season. it would make zero sense to include the playoffs, especially for beck. again, i thought this was self-evident, given that most people took statistics at least one semester, correct? @Empirical Cane

I'm sure that sounded better in your head my friend.

We'd normalize the data like we did IrvinG vs Richards vs Toney re: "Frosh" seasons

I don't care too much about Mensah's individual stats, at the end of the day the game is scoring points.

2024 we were #1 in the country and averaged 42.9 PPG

2025 we were #32 in the country and averaged 30.0 PPG.

IMO those numbers are impacted greatly by the defense each team had. So, while I think the 2026 offense could get close to 2024, it likely won't have to, and as much as we "Let it Rip" at the end of 2025, Mario and Dawson are simply not going to play like Cam played in 2024 if we have big leads in the 2nd half of games and our defense is shutting down the opposing offense.

I think 2026 settles somewhere around 35.0 PPG, which is usually somewhere around 12th in the country. Mensah is closer to Ward than Beck in terms of talent and playmaking ability.

Ward still took 22 sacks, Mensah with 27 with Duke O-line. Beck took half the sacks but Ward also threw for +80 attempts.

Numbers for Mensah I can see being similar to what he produced at Duke yardage but more TD's.

If Mensah's Miami O is close to 40 PPG w/ what we expect the D to be...

With that said, that PPG can't be padded vs the Bethunes.

Our Canes MUST PUT A BEATING ON ACC TEAMS TOP TO BOTTOM.

No more 3-7 pt Ws and I remain convinced Miami has to make ACCCG, if not win it to make playoffs. Canes aren't pulling that inside straight to sneak in like last year.

This is simplifying it way too much but it's the bottom floor of understanding how we need to play.

In 2025 we averaged 66.4 plays per game.
In 2024 we averaged 70.9 plays per game.

That is a MASSIVE difference, whether people realize it or not.

And it wasn't just because of the defense.

In 2025, we averaged facing 63.6 plays per game
In 2024, we averaged facing 62.8 plays per game

So in 2025, our games combined averaged 130 plays per game, exactly.
In 2024, that number was 133.7

Dawson and Mario need to understand, we need to be closer to the 2024 pace on offense than the 2025 pace. 2024 wasn't even insanely fast. It's not like we were in hyperspeed. But we had an "offensive team". We knew that was our strength, and we leaned into it. 2025 we had a "defensive team". We knew that was our strength, and we leaned into it.

2026 needs to be a "championship team". Lean into your offense AND your defense, and just steamroll people. Trust both sides. You have the talent to do it. There's no reason not to.

Tough comp b/c those Beck and Ward numbers were generated in Miami, whereas Mensah's numbers come from Duke.

That said, he'll be less flashy than Cam but more efficient.
Yay! Back to back seasons of being more efficient than our best and most efficient QB ever?

What more can we want?????
