VTech names Hendon Hooker starting qb vs Canes

Supposedly both Hooker and Willis have some shoulder issues right now. Nothing serious as far as I get. This kid is an inaccurate passer. sometimes, on the money; next pass, all over. He definitely will run and likes to. Ivins talked about him a little bit on a podcast. AT one point, Notre Dame was recruiting him pretty hard . Then they switched over to Ian Book.

It's interesting he is starting. Either Willis is hurt more or they are anticipating the need to run.

And one tangible which has HURT Diaz's defense since 2016 is a RUNNING QB. Yikes. Especially when Diaz plays that crappy deep zone. huh.

For instance, remember when Miami played that chitty zone against CMICH. sometime late in the second-half. I believe it was either 3rd or 4 th down. And the Red Injuns threw the ball to Bandy's side of the field and converted the down. OUCH. And if anybody recalls, Bandy was ****ED off and staring down the sidelines. Why! Because Bandy was TOO DEEP on the zone coverage and CMICH. threw the pass for a completion UNDER the zone. Go figure. So that's why Bandy went BALLISTIC. Bandy KNEW he was too deep on the coverage and was giving away TOO MUCH CUSHION to the wide-out, who then read the defense and cut his pass route SHORT and underneath Bandy.

Was thinking the same thing. Has anyone in the country had a better pass defense collectively over 3.5 years since manny has been here? But sheep after sheep just talk like every QB an opponent rolls out there just shreds the defense.

Whatever. Any Cane fan following Diaz's DEFENSE knows by now, that the Cane defense is usually good for TWO or THREE games each season. And the rest of the time they tend to play down to the competition, for what ever reasons, or make a rookie QB look 1st/2nd team All-ACC. Go figure.

For example, this year the defense played pretty **** good against mighty Florida. Then went out and allowed a true freshmen QB to look like the second coming of Joe Willie Namath. AKA Broadway Joe HuH.

Need more proof. The '17 season when the Canes TKO'd mighty ND's offense and their highly regarded offensive line. Then molested a HIGH OCTANE West Virginia offense. I believe ex-WVIRG. head coach said this about the Cane defense... " The BEST DEFENSE we played ALL season long. "

I never knew Marino was a RUNNING QB. Who I understand, dude. You're yapping about passing the football. dUh
Yeah, it's called irony. ****ty qbs have a habit of playing their best games against us for some reason. This idiot probably couldnt throw the ball in the ocean if he was in a boat but somehow against us, he'll look like Dan Marino. Get it now, dude?

Good post. I agree wholeheartedly and have said so on this board several times. I think the ACC made some really solid coaching hires. Satterfield at Louisville is excellent and I think that program will be much better in a couple years. Collins legitimizes GT and now allows them to tap into the insane amount of athleticism in Atlanta and the state of Georgia. 100% higher ceiling now. Bronco vs Mike London.....LMAO. Wake and Duke both have excellent "more with less" coaches. BC is generally terrible.....Addazio is OK, but that program will never be better than average with him there. Babers is very good, Cuse has been up recently but they're down this year. Long-term, he's a good coach and will have them competitive. Pitt is meh.....Narduzzi will do what he does.....go 7-5 every year with wins or close losses to good teams and some inexplicable losses to middle/bad league teams.

But yes, overall the coaching in the ACC has improved. Just this year, the league is as bad as it's been in a LONG time and is without a hint of a doubt the worst P5 league BY FAR.

Mid pack ACC teams can hang with any of the mid tier teams from the other conferences. We are weak at the top atm. We are not miles behind any of the other leagues. Also let's not forget ND is a de facto ACC member. So if you include them as a quasi independent ACC member the league is slightly more respectable presently.

Well, most dominant defenses at least dominate eight or nine games during the regular season( Something Miami hasn't done under CORCH Diaz. ). Enter the mighty Ohio St., for one great example. hUh
