Let's have a hypothetical scenario play out. Which would you rather have happen and why?

  • In scenario 1 we have to retain Manny Diaz until the end of his contract (which won't be renewed), this way the program stagnates, we lose recruiting classes, etc, BUT Manny will have no buyout to worry about and we can (hypothetically) reduce Mario's buyout. Granted yes, he could get a contract extension at any time, but let that just play out in your choice. If not Mario, whichever big name coach you guys want can be swapped in.

  • In scenario 2 we let go of Manny Diaz during the season, promote Simpson/Lashlee/T Rob or whoever to Interim HC to finish the season. But we make a Billy Napier type hire that is announced around the bowl season. Maybe he does well in the following years, or maybe he is just a perennial 8-4 type HC. Do you want to take this gamble?
Obviously, any hire realisitcally could be a gamble, but this is all hypothetical.

Curious to see people's thoughts on this.

Bro - that’s 2 more years of Manny

If Manny is still here for 2 more years, the list of coaches that would take this dumpster fire job would be much smaller. Manny should have been gone last week.

We've finished in the top 15 once in the last 15 years under at least 4 different HCs. We've had experienced HCs get hired and coordinators without HC experience. . We've gone for more experienced guys and younger, supposedly hungrier guys. We've gone for Miami/SoFla guys and guys from other places.

All have been bad. I'm afraid this ship has sailed a long time ago. The good old days are old for a reason.

Private schools other than the **** domers who are in a category by themselves not winning these days---USC (the real one), Canes, Pitt etc all had a day in the sun.

I don't think Nappier would take the Miami job.
As for scenario 2, I don't understand the board being already tired of (hypotheticals) repeated 9-3 seasons when we have done that FOUR times since 2006, for reference we have won 5 or 6 games FIVE times over the same period.
