Vols Tears

Well can't have an illegal contract
The NIL contract requires so little of the player and is full of ways for the player to do essentially nothing via sports and still collect on the deal. But the player’s NIL value is necessarily tied to him/her being a productive member of the a team. If we believe NIL is the actual value of a player’s name, image and likeness, that is directly impacted by whether the individual plays a sport, and how well.

If the player is injured, or withdraws from the team, his/her NIL value is impacted, and yet the contract as written does not provide UM with the ability to take those things into account. I know the Big 10 was including such languages into their contracts. Of course this is its own slippery slope if coaches bench a player to reduce his/her NIL value.

The issue will continue to have imperfect solutions until it is actually pay for play.

Well today my coworker who's a Vols fan joke around that Beck going to Tennessee. Ha

Just collectively bargain this thing already. College Players Union needs to happen. The fact a deal is being considered with zero representation from the players is pretty crazy to me. If it hurts the players, it will likely lead to another type of response.

The old saying “Be careful what you wish for….” Is appropriate here.

The current situation is a joke.
Whatever comes out of the settlement will be a joke.
A unionized collective bargaining could be worse than both.
Those of us old enough to remember, remember the 1982 NFL season strike, the 1994 MLB strike, the 1987 NFL strike and a multitude of other strikes and lockouts that delayed starts of the seasons.
The 1994-1995 MLB strike almost killed MLB. It took a long time before fans started going to games in the numbers pre strike.

I have zero confidence the courts can fix this. About the same confidence it can be fixed legislatively, though that is probably the only real long term fix.

The biggest problem is the NCAA, if it had not been such a complete cluster Fvck of an institution, it could have solved this with participation of schools and players, but that ship has sailed. Now there are no adults involved in finding a solution.
College football needs a leader, a Pete Rozelle type not beholden to the schools or conferences. This is where legislation could probably help, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. The conferences are greedy, the players are greedy and it’s all amateur hour right now.

Players need to agree to forming a union and that’s not likely to happen. They have all the power right now. Why purposely cap your potential earnings?

Sources tell On3 that UCLA has emerged as a school in the mix to land the quarterback, who is originally from Long Beach, California. The Bruins have been tied to Iamaleava since news broke of his departure last week.

. North Carolina is a known buyer in the quarterback market this spring, ahead of Bill Belichick’s inaugural season. It remains to be seen if the Tar Heels and Iamaleava are the right fit. The quarterback’s asking price of $4 million could be too much for North Carolina.

Another program that could be open to taking Iamaleava is Tulane, sources have said. The Green Wave are still trying to identify their starting quarterback for the 2025 season, with TJ Finley suspended and head coach Jon Sumrall open to evaluating the spring transfer quarterback market. Sumrall is open to adding Iamaleava and has started to kick the tires on the Tennessee transfer quarterback.

Many southern states don’t allow public employees to collectively bargain. Even those that do, only allow it for some combo of teachers, firemen, and police.

Nailed it.

Yes.

And going forward, people are going to have to realize that the REAL valuation of a HS quarterback is his ability to be a "recruiting ambassador" that nails down the rest of the recruiting class.

Once we get over the whole "but a HS QB can be worth $14M if The Gator decides to pay it" nonsense, we can start valuing QBs properly.

Probably not, but that’s what they get. Who wants what they just witnessed on their roster?
I agree wholeheartedly, the kid and/or his reps aren't very smart and the kids reputation, which already wasn't the best, takes a massive hit for trying to ransom yall
