Vinny T is a ***boi - 86 Orange Bowl v. Oklahoma

Some valid points about the d I give that but o and d feed off each other and when you throw 3 picks and fumble in the endzone vs 1 td it's says something. We had a **** good run game against psu though Also the 86 fsu team finished unranked and we were 1 going into the game. Hardly a big win. Also he beat a Florida team in 86 that finishes unranked and also lost to uf in 85. If you check the schedule he just wasn't very good against any d with a pulse, save Oklahoma. Look bud, I was going to games in the 80s so I'm not new to the scene. I also understand those wins against Oklahoma were epic and he looked like Superman. But against everyone else that was actually good but for a decent 85 fsu team he was pretty sucky relative to most of our great QBs.

F$U finished #20 (and at that time they only ranked 20 teams, not 25) in the coaches poll, and just outside of #20 in the AP poll, so let's not act as if beating F$U in 1986 wasn't a big game. It was a huge game at the time that it was played, and F$U was a very good team, even if they dropped after good losses.

In 1986, F$U lost to Miami (finished #2), Nebraska (finished #5), Michigan (finished #8), and The Gaytor (rivalry game). So let's not pretend that a Top 20 F$U team (coaches poll), which lost to 3 Top 10 teams, isn't a big game.

Also, don't act as if you have some special insight for those games, I was there too. I cited all of our big games, because we were an independent at the time, and we didn't have as much of a chance to play the best teams (go back and look at the 1986 Sports Illustrated cover with Vinnie, and read the headline).

Vinny was 3-3 in big games. Two for the national title he sucked and once against a good Florida team and he sucked. He beat Oklahoma 2x and fsu 2x but one team was as you say unranked in the AP after the season. My opinion which clearly can be debated as you have proven, is that he sucked when it counted. He won the Heisman for beating Oklahoma two years in a row.

4-3.

And let's not forget, in 1987, the sportswriters were all questioning whether JIMMY JOHNSON would ever be a championship coach, since he crapped the bed for THREE STRAIGHT bowl games, two Fiasco Bowls and a Sugar Bowl.

But Jimmy did win one when he had a QB that was ice and didn't chit the bed when it counted.

I didn’t see 86 live; I only saw the rewind. But FA SHO 03 hurts more for me.

I was in a house full of Buckeyes during this game, too. They were giving me **** the entire game, then we scored in OT...then Glenn Sharpe breaks up the pass, and the announcement of “The Miami Hurricanes are back to back National Champions”....and I went H.A.M on everyone in that house, including my ex....thumping my chest, and that flag came out, and I just hear Keith Jackson say, “wait, hold everything”. I dropped to my knees & crawled to the TV and kept saying “pls don’t do this to me, to us, to me...” And when they called P.I, I just stayed on my knees as they jumped around me celebrating.

Man, it still feels like yesterday
I was at the game, man what a group of -sshole fans the buckeyes were and are. most vivid memory majority of team was already at mid field by the time the flag dropped...... let them play physical the whole game and then a 3 second delay by a ref who was further away then ref who should have made the call ???? go figure oh yeah SunDEvil stadium was a dump period looks great on TV but nothing else....

He was paid; I don’t care what anyone says. Dude was a Heisman Trophy Winner, and he found some inexplicable way to stall all of our drives. Him, not the team, him. We absolutely smoked PSU that game in every single category. He was gift wrapping ints, throwing it in to triple coverage sometimes.

U don’t go from looking like Tom Brady during the reg season, to NFL Jeff George in the bowl game. Guys we’re running wide open & he chose to throw it in between 2-3 PSU defenders every productive drive? Naw....he was paid off.
take this for what it's worth. i recently picked up a new territory and big customer is PSU grad and fan. when we talked about the game he basically said that on PSU film study on any pass play the last look Vinnie gave before play was to look to the side of field he was going to throw to ..... like i say take it for what its worth.... I have to grin and bear with the account

The Ref standing next to the play signaled Incomplete pass....

The **** was right there, champ. Complete view of the play, and called incomplete. This **** Terry Porter behind the play, wasn’t even sure, said he had to replay the play in his head, then decided to throw the flag! What???! He should’ve been overruled.

he should have been whacked! Being a cane fan it would have found its way back to me 😂

Vinny was holding Jimmy back and many of us have a good reason why. Bet his bank account was extra fat after the Tennessee and PSU games.

Walsh showed us how it was supposed to be done

Never said he was “shabby” just saying what he was. I don’t mind QBs who take risk down field if you have the fire power at the skilled position. A lot of times the rewards out weighs the risk...He was a gunslinger who took risk. But Saying he was on that take in that 86 games is asinine. There was guys dropping passes, fumbling and making mistakes..was the whole offense in on the take? Of course ******* not..it’s like if a FSU fan says Winston was on the take vs Oregon in the semifinals game. It’s ridiculous. Vinnie was a high turnover QB in the NFL too
Interceptaverde!

Only Miami fans propagate a retarded theory that Vinnie was on the take with absolutely zero proof, not even the slightest shred of flimsy evidence.

What a bunch of ignorant malcontents and mouth breathers.

Wasn’t it 9 INT’s between the two bowl games he played? I’ve thought the same thing since the Fiesta Bowl that year.
