Vince Wilfork

He used to tell guys not to play at Miami but feels Mario's bringing The U back. Cantwell said Wilfork called him and said he should attend Miami as both were shot putters. Thank you for the recruiting Vince!
I’m not saying you are wrong, but who did he tell not to play for Miami? This is the first I’m hearing about this.

Interesting. I doubt he was out there being proactive and telling recruits not to come to Miami. Probably a recruit had a private conversation with him and he said Miami might not be the best choice at that time. He certainly wasn’t bashing Miami.

Props to Vince-

Coming out of Santaluces HS in Boynton Beach he was a state champion shot putter-I think he still holds the state record -

Armondo Blount was also a phenomenal shot putter and discus thrower at Dillard and Miami Central.

There’s a big difference between not recommending and telling kids not to come.

Like when a project manager asked me about prospective hire who I used to work with and all I said I knew of him, confirmed that he was a developer and that's it. No recommendation given but I didn't want to trash the guy. The PM read between the lines.

There is a difference between "not tell players to go there" and "tell players to not go there," he said the former. So he just wasn't calling recruits to help recruit, which makes sense.

Not like he was taking time to call up recruits that were considering Miami and telling them to not go to Miami. He just wasn't going to put his reputation on the line for a coach and program that he didn't trust at the time and go out of the way to call a recruit to go to Miami like he did with Cantwell.

"He told me that he used to not tell players to go there because it wasn't very good”
The placement of the "not" is very important here. Where it stands before "tell" by definition means that he was not pitching Miami to recruits. If the "not" was before "go" then it means that he was telling recruits not to go to Miami.
