Vilma

He is articulate, and not all commentators are. The previous 2 games we had to listen to bumbling Dude, forget his first name...Ware that said Jaquan was faking and Deejay threw a punch while trying to stiff arm. Im black so i take no offense about any if it. Not everyone is articulate, particularly former ball players

This is silly. White commentators aren't referred to as "articulate." Full stop.

Vilma was insightful and engaging. Hope we get more of him on espn.

I met Chiznik in the late 90s in SanDestin Fl...(SEC Meetings at the Hilton) I was an Executive Sous Chef....he was standing with Tommy Tubberville....Even back then he had huge admiration for UM....

I didn’t know you were a chef. Are you still doing that?

Loved how they described his relationship with Shaq and how he is passing down his knowledge just as Ray Lewis and the other greats have done in the past. Vilma is a Class Act who represents the U greatly
I liked the piece before kickoff of Shaq reviewing old films of JV playing linebacker at the U. Shaq learned a lot from reviewing JV in action.

That was very enlightening to the rest of college sports about the U and its family attitude towards each other. JV is a die hard Cane trying to help out the next generation of greats

Honestly, I am not a huge fan of JV when he is in studio or on College Football Live. I am not sure why. But on the call last night, I thought he did a great job. His analysis of the play calling, how the players are reacting and what they are "key-ing" on was fantastic. I really enjoyed it. I agree Chizik did a good job as well.

I appreciated JV’s tone because He was being himself. You could tell that he was sharing things (good and bad) that he would share in front of the team as part of the family. Great to hear the excitement in his voice, and you could see him take opportunities to sell the defense and team to any potential recruit who may be listening, while bringing a balanced approach.

As a critique, I would say that having 3 in the booth led to a few too many “talk show opinion” discussions during the broadcast, where Chizik would give his “coach’s viewpoint” and Vilma the “player perspective”. Banter is good, but when you take focus off the game for too long, it becomes more about them individually.

Ironic that the redshirting rule was discussed and Chizik opined on players trying to “manage their own brand”, yet ESPN broadcasters are managing their brand through their over-opinion sharing.

In the past, an announcer was measured on their ability to connect with an audience and draw them in, getting out of the way at the right time to let the action speak for itself. Now we just overwhelmed with everyone’s opinions during a broadcast.

TCgrad was taught articulate is code word that only racist use. They change the word meaning then pounce on any white person who uses them, fun game.

I thought it was “well spoken”... Articulate shouldn’t have a negative underlying undertone...

Vilma will be the lead personality once the ACC Network is up and running.
Good call and I can see that as well. Vilma is a natural in the booth.

Was this a one time thing or will he be doing every Thursday night game?

Okay, he sounded like a U grad...which means much more intelligent then an FSU grad...;)

Yes....I'm an Executive corporate Chef for a Restaurant group.

Does that mean you’re in charge of the chefs in the franchise and/or company owned restaurant/establishments?

I’m not trying to be nosy, I’m just not that familiar with that business, the hospitality and/or restaurant business, so I’m just curious.

White commentators are "students of the game" and real "gym rats". You know, "high motor" guys who give great effort.

So if Manny left and we gave him a phone call he would listen?

Not sure what you’re getting at. All commentators need to be articulate, but the reality is half of them stumble over themselves and can barely form a coherent sentence.

Haha. I KNEW that would be problematic for some around here as soon as I read it.

In A LOT of other contexts TCgrad would actually have a point.

In THIS context, CaneSwag is absolutely correct in using it as an adjective as Vilma is in a field populated largely by morons that are bad at their jobs (see Gary Danielson, Andre Ware, etc) and him being an extremely articulate communicator stands out and places him above his colleagues of all races, genders, creeds, etc.

Just my opinion as I'm one of the biggest proponents of Vilma as a representative of ALL things University of Miami.

Vilma and Chizik were really good on the call. They are a wealth of knowledge and do a great job of sharing that in a clear and short manner between plays.
