Let me bury the lead
Nope
Let me bury the lead
The majority of the players who started that game will be playing a major role/ starting next year. They were not very impressive, at all.We were without half our starters on both sides of the ball for what was basically a meaningless home game against a Rutgers team who only had one starting player out. The only person that even wanted to be at that game from our team was Jacurri.
Umm...just how many snaps in practice as the starter did he have before that game? Asking for a friend. With JB11 we lost to Rutgers. Let that sink in.
He played scout team QB so he had a ****load of snaps during the season (albeit not running the specific Dawson offense) and then had 10+ practices that he took 90%+ of the snaps before the bowl game.Umm...just how many snaps in practice as the starter did he have before that game? Asking for a friend.
Give me Reese Poffenbarger this young man after watching his highlight film is the QB we need for next year. Very good arm and throws a very catchable and accurate ball plus one of the most elusive QBs i have seen for awhile ,he can run if necessary and when he does is very hard to bring downIf we don't get a good QB in the portal, which seems likely, I see the ceiling next year to be the 2017 year *best case*. Like 2017, we'd need a lot of luck. But we can get to 9-10 wins. Unlike 2017 though, at least the QB will be coming back and has a higher ceiling than Malik did either way.
My fellow Canes fan, with all due respect, this is not a 10 win team. QB does matter as does a HC that makes accurate and timely gameday decisions. And as of this write, we are not that team.Let me bury the lead and just say - I don't believe our fortunes will rise or fall with a stud QB transfer. I think if we rock into this coming season with the QB's that we already have, we will be fine and "should" win 10 games.
Would I love to get a stud from the portal who can help us ascend and rise again like the Phoenix this coming season? Who wouldn't, right???
I do think this coming season should be a 10-win game minimum (9 wins is on the razor's edge of whether or not Mario is gonna succeed here), and we will hopefully, be building for the future.
All indications are that we will own the trenches in all 12 games coming up in 24'. If we own the LOS in all 12 games, unless we have a spectacular meltdown or another Guinness Book of World Records on injuries in a season, and we retain Guidry for at least this coming season, we should win 5/6 of those games. Couple that with next season being the easiest we've seen in a long time and there you go.
Emory or JB11? I believe either of them should be able to win 10 games here in 24'. Additionally, this will be Dawson's make it or break it year. Many on CIS have already given up on Dawson and in a Lee Corso way, I must say, "Not so fast, my friend!" Mario will have a lot of developing to do himself this offseason and if he allows Dawson to really dial things up for the whole season, and have a QB that doesn't go into a shell (ex. TVD), he should be fine here.
JB, showed me enough in the Pinstripe to make me think that he could take us to 10 wins, especially given that we will own the LOS in all 12 games (or at least do that on paper).
Although it seems many have discounted Emory's results, the dude led us to a victory against Clemson and brought us almost to victory against a fully loaded undefeated FSU team, playing in Doak. Again, I don't see why, if we own the trenches, he couldn't take us to 10 wins.
If we do get a stud QB in the portal, then I would say the playoffs are likely and the sky is the limit.
Another portal thought: if Malachi didn't make it at USC for acceptable reasons, and not because he actually sucks, then bring him in, bring him along and let him compete with the QB's on the roster.
Final thought: the big picture this year is not the playoffs, it's winning 10 games. We will have more talent and own the trenches (on paper) against all 12 regular season teams AND we play the Noles at home. Whoever is QBing this year will not make or break this team, and Mario needs to win 10 in the worst way, so get there by hook or crook. If Mario gets to 10 wins this year, especially if he does it without a stud QB, then I think he's actually gonna make it here for a while longer. If he underperforms again, regardless of who's taking snaps, then the death spiral will have started and he won't last past one more season.
No one really knows. Lots of assumptions on either side of that debate. My fellow Canes fan, with all due respect, this is not a 10 win team. QB does matter as does a HC that makes accurate and timely gameday decisions. And as of this write, we are not that team.
Reality is a 7/8 win team. The HC has to improve his play not to lose mentality. His constant desire to run on 1st and 2nd down up the middle. His uptightness behavior as he paces back and forth on the sidelines.
The HC coaches with a look that screams physical Mountain Bear but when it’s all said and done, he turns into 4 week old puppy looking to curl up in the fetal position.
I feel like that Dallas Cowboys Cycle meme...

Except in order it is:
Step 1.) ...Getting hyped and bought in from Spring Practice to Game 1 kickoff,
Step 2.) Season is over and moped-mode sets in by around game 3 with first loss.
Step 3.) Hoping for chaos in CFB and for rivals rest of season--misery loves company.
Step 4.) Sad off-Season *****ing and moaning intensifies until (go back to step 1)...
This is our life as a Canes fan.
This will be nominated for 2024 poRst of the year.
Congrats.

Sooo I guess JB11 was on defense missing tackles against the Rutgers RB as well? With JB11 we lost to Rutgers. Let that sink in.
So what he did at Oregon winning 9, 12, games and 10 games were a mirage? Is Miami program just broken? My fellow Canes fan, with all due respect, this is not a 10 win team. QB does matter as does a HC that makes accurate and timely gameday decisions. And as of this write, we are not that team.

The overall depth of the offensive line is better simply because everyone has another year of experience. We are replacing 2 key starters on the OL, I dont think its a given our OL will better and our DL needs a ton of work.
Okay to be optimistic there for reasons you outlined, but it’s not a shoe in the OL will be better and the two guys we need to replace aren’t easy to replace. The new guy most likely won’t be as good as Lee. I think Rivers could slide to guard and replace Cohen decently but that requires someone to step up at LT. Samson has talent but got injured and the JUCO kid hasn’t even showed up yet so we don’t know what we have there yet even if he is talented. Then we are making the assumption that everyone takes a step forward. Doesn’t always work like that. The overall depth of the offensive line is better simply because everyone has another year of experience.
To have only lost 2 guys from our offensive line room is incredible. We added a veteran transfer center who's bigger than Lee (although not as talented) and a huge JuCo offensive tackle. If Rivers moves back to guard, we could be better than last year. Francis and Coop both a year with more experience.
We have Pancake, Kinsler, Bell, and McCoy to all have significant roles.
Yes, we lost 2 good pieces, but look at all the guys who will have experience and development under their belt. I'm optimistic for the 2024 offensive line.
This shoukd be a 10 win team. There are no guarantees, but there isn't any reason they couldn't achieve 10 wins unless we get bad TVD level of play at the QB position. I don't see that happening. Teams were sitting back playing deep zone because they knew TVD wasn't a threat to run. Jaccuri and Poff would pull the ball down and run. Emory would just make better decisions than TVD.So what he did at Oregon winning 9, 12, games and 10 games were a mirage? Is Miami program just broken?
His last 3 full seasons there he averaged 10.3 wins per year, but now he is just a caveman meathead that doesn't know how to manage gameday?
Yes, you are getting it.So what he did at Oregon winning 9, 12, games and 10 games were a mirage? Is Miami program just broken?

That's fair, but we have McCoy, Bell, and Pancake. We should hit on at least one of them.Okay to be optimistic there for reasons you outlined, but it’s not a shoe in the OL will be better and the two guys we need to replace aren’t easy to replace.
