Vandy jumps Miami in latest AP Poll, is TOLD YOU SO too early?

AP is a bogus poll. I’ll be honestly shocked if miami isn’t 12 this week in CFP but there is a corruption element to understand. If ND stays at 9 I can totally see Vandy being 12 to keep Miami out of the same tier as ND. They shouldn’t but I understand the CFP doesn’t want to have to use the h2h win for Miami
Maybe but I don’t think that’ll happen. They’d have to truly believe we were in a dogfight vs VT for that to happen imo. Even if we get to 12, they can do mental gymnastics to keep ND at 8. If ND was 10 or whatever then I could see H2H coming into play. But for 4 spots? No way. Because then you’d have to argue that ND has a worse resume than OU, I believe they do, but they ranked them as if they didn’t last week. Then they’d have to say Alabama has a better resume than ND. Which again I believe they do, but again they weren’t ranked as such last week.

If those aren’t true, then you have to say we have a better resume than OU, Bama, BYU and Utah. The last two I believe we do. But as a realist, I don’t think we clear Bama or OU’s resume. Would we probably beat OU H2H? Probably but based on resumes theirs is better. Bama would be more of a toss up, but again the only thing we have is the common opponent thing with FSU. I personally don’t think it’s enough. BYU & Utah I think our resume clears theirs.

Again I think we can get to 12 and they can still dance around H2H. What we need is ND to slide back some. That’s the only way H2H comes into play. If we can sneak into the ACCCG, win big, we should jump the non competing teams with two losses. Then the H2H with ND will probably vault us past them.

We better end up #10 because 11 and 12 can be replaced after conference finals

I doubt we move anywhere in the rankings. My guess is Utah falls back to 14, and Vandy moves to 12. The committee will go “Vandy beat VT more than what Miami did. They just had a win over a tough Kentucky team”

I don’t see it. Vandy had one ranked win. Odds are Mizzou falls out. If SMU finally breaks through one of our losses becomes a T25 loss. Vandy was also losing at HT vs VT. At no point did we trail. And after getting up 14-3, we were never within 10 points again.

I don’t necessarily care where SMU is ranked. That’s still a bad loss in ESPN and the committees eyes. The only way we’re making the playoffs is if BYU loses either next week or in the b12 championship, and either Bama and/or Oklahaoma loses. Our odds are very low tbh

I was initially up in arms over this because I’ve been an avid Vandy critic but I believe they were already ahead of us in the AP ranking last week, we jumped them in the CFP rankings (the one that matters). So if they’re ahead of us on Tuesday, I’ll join you and get my torch, pitchfork, etc ready.

But I don’t think they will jump us in the CFP rankings. We both beat up bad teams. Vandy beat VT earlier in the season and while they won by 20 and not 17, it was a much closer game as Vandy trailed at halftime. Sometimes final scores can be deceiving.

We have to be 10 or lower to get in. 11 & 12 for conference champs.
The top 10 are locked and cannot be bumped out by a G5 or conf champ. So it is the 11 and 12 spot (usually just 12) that are at risk for losing their spot to a G5 tean ranked outside the top 12.

I believe the 4 highest ranked conf champs get an automatic bid. This would presumably be SEC, B1G, XII, and ACC. However if ACC or other major conf champ is ranked behind another G5 Conf champ in the CFP that G5 team gets the bid and I dont believe they replace the G5 bid it still counts as the guaranteed G5. So it opens a spot for an at large.

IF the eventual ACC champion is ranked behind a G5 conference champion then the ACC champ would not actually make the playoff, another at large team would and that team would be BYU at the moment with Miani right behind (assuming we leap frog Utah and stay in front of Vandy.)

Anybody care to confirm?

I’m speaking more in relation to Vandy jumping us vs us jumping BYU, Bama or OU. Come tomorrow Vandy will have played two ranked teams and lost both times. And if they rank SMU, they’ll pivot to Louisville. That will become the bad loss.

It’s the five highest. Basically it’s supposed to be the P4 champs and then a G5 champ. The AAC champ and probably JMU would have to be in the rankings and Duke would have to win the ACC for that to happen.

Sooo…

Were the highest ranked ACC team

We have the #1 Defense in the ACC… 1st against the pass and run.

4th best Offense in the ACC

We have the best DE in the Nation. Possibly the 2nd best as well.

2 (not 1) players who are Thorpe Award worthy

The best Freshman in America

And we’re not going to be in the ACC title game?

And we need help to make the playoffs??

Somebody make it make sense? 😣

As of now Pitt, GT, and SMU are all behind them. If Georgia destroys GT that could be another avenue for us if GT ends up winning the ACC. UVA wouldnt work they are ranked too high. Figure SMU might jump up too far if they win it but they could struggle in the title game against Duke or GT and not move up. But it sounds like you are saying that there are 5 AQ bids no matter what so that doesn't help us unless one of the G5 teams are already in the top 12

For us to be an at large we have to be #10. So either we back door into the ACCCG and win or we need to get to #10. The Big 12, SEC and Big Ten champs will be inside the top 12. Unless we win the ACC, no ACC team can climb that high. The only one who could is GT but for them to win the conference they need more help than us so that’s doubtful. Duke currently sits at 6-5. They could go 7-5 and make the ACCCG. If they win they won’t be ranked above JMU or whoever wins the AAC. Which would leave the entire ACC out. Unless we get an at-large bid.

The broader point is five teams in some fashion will make it. Leaving 7 at large spots. You probably figure, OSU, IU, TAMU, UGA, Ole Miss, and TT are guaranteed spots. OU, ND, Oregon are win and ins. That’s 9. If Bama wins Saturday and then beats TAMU that’s 10. Then the two other conferences( some combo of AAC, JMU, and the ACC) takes the last two. Things get real hairy if BYU wins out. TT probably stays in. Which would knock either OU or ND if Bama wins out.

Odds are we don’t make it. We need an insane amount of help. We need to get to #10 and hope BYU doesn’t win the Big 12.

Miami and its players know the importance of the game against Pitt. I want to see how they show up for this one. This is their ACC championship game. We are clearly the best ACC team , now they must prove it. All the politics and committee bull **** wont change the losing to two conference chumps.

ND just has to be 9-12 range

Completely wrong? We'll see on Tuesday. and its not that "Vandy" is ahead of us, it's that this committee will look for any excuse to put SEC teams in. And if Vandy loses to UT next week, they'll find someone else to put in front of us.....watch
What did we see?

Now do same thing last year only with offense. Two golden opportunities blown by Mario if we dont get any help this weekend.

Pleasantly surprised. I think #12 is great for us. Not we just need to take care of business! Let’s go CANES!!
