Valentine Thread: Set to visit this weekend....maybe.

There's still 6 days left. This thing still has some unplayed twists and turns left to go. You may question Al's judgment but he is one relentless muthafugga.

Al gave it the old college try and that's all that really matters. You win some, you lose some.

Not that I have a problem with the effort, but when you make $2+ million a year, trying is not all that matters. And as far as DTs go, we just seem to lose some. And by some I mean a lot.

That's an antiquated view of the measurement of success, my man. Evolved people realize that the only thing we can control is effort. It is only fair to judge people by things they can control. As effort is all Al can control, the only way we can fairly judge him is by the effort he puts into this job. I give him an A+!

Lol, ok. I operate in the real world.

I think I'll stick to my way of judging him by his ****** defenses and **** poor record against teams with a pulse.

Holy **** at all of the people in this thread that have bought C4L's pay-for-play narrative hook, line, and sinker.

Archaic.

I was having dinner with a guy who was on the LSU Nati team, has done real well, and is a booster for them. We were talking about how effed up the whole Nevin nonesense was and he was shocked that our boosters did not have our house in order and run our recruiting more professionally. He says that small time, big noise **** would not fly for a minute in Baton Rouge. I'll never know what happened with TV, but I won't ever doubt what happened either. I also won't give this staff a pass for it. You coach us up for games and stop getting embarrassed whenever we play live teams, and maybe you don't lose a kid when the bagman comes. With that off my chest, class still looks better than in a long *** time and I'm praying a certain coach (or two) shock me and make me want to offer a public apology next year. I will renew my tickets and believe once again that we back. In the words of the great Paranos: GO CANES!

I prefer the term "evolved."

Try hard. Win hard. It's a proven fact that the socially advanced don't focus on arbitrary indicia of success such as winning. We focus on effort.

I'll leave the "you gotta win" rhetoric to the barbarians amongst us. I credit a guy like ibiswingz for his evolved view on this topic.

Holy **** at all of the people in this thread that have bought C4L's pay-for-play narrative hook, line, and sinker.

If you say something enough, it is true.

If you don't think these players are paid you are delusional. I know for a fact that players at Tennessee and Alabama are paid. I don't know about recruits, but the players are paid. Now, do I think TV was paid, no, but I bet someone was promised something. I think there are several other reasons for TV to pick L$U.

Mom wanted Miami the whole time; step dad is really close with Hurlie, now won't visit because of family reasons.

Came on an unofficial just to hang out with Moten the week before his official to L$U, now won't take his official.

L$U history, their giant need for DTs, Genron's history. Not hard to see what went down here

Kid commits to us in May. The season takes place and he begins to show concern over the defensive scheme around the time of the FSU game. Around this same time, he begins to publicly show interest in LSU. LSU misses out on Gerald Willis, arguably it's top DT target at the All American game. LSU turns this heat up on TV, potentially in an attempt to alleviate this loss. Valentine visits and (in all likelihood) eventually commits to LSU on Signing Day.

My biggest issue with the play-for-play theory is that Valentine had been "wavering" with UM, if that's what you want to call it.

Kid was interested in LSU for a while, long before C4L drew up a play-by-play of Les Miles, Genron, and Corey Raymond partying in a tub full of $100 bills.

We havent landed an elite DT in 3 years here (maybe Moten if you qualify him as elite). At first, people were skeptical of the staff. Now, it's gotta be corruption, right?

There are a lot of rookies in this thread. TV is gone boys. Whatever reasoning you want to go with whether it be money or our ****** scheme, he's not coming back. If you haven't seen this movie yet. Watch it real close so next year and the year after you can distinguish it when a rerun is about to be played. Also it's easier to get higher ranked recruits at the end of the year when its a first year coach because they anticipate change. This is year Three and we are not getting high ranked recruits in the end because they know what to expect in scheme and coaching. The same thing happened with Randy. We started off closing with 4 stars and by year three we were closing with three and two stars. If you don't see the trend (and its not upward) then take your orange and green glasses off. This is a very very critical year for Golden. If he keeps the same defensive philosophy he will be fired by the end of the year.

When you are paying someone $2+ million a year, you expect results, not just great effort.

Hallmark is correct. Hallmark of success.

You can't control what you can't control. Al has done everything humanly possible including going to Champagnat Catholic in clerical attire on Tuesday while clutching Rosary Beads. Despite all of this, it didn't happen. I applaud Al for the effort.

So it was not:
- getting paid
- PSU
- scheme

It was:
- family feeling
- LSU convinced him he was too dumb for Miami's academics

Wow.

The results are, in fact, the great effort.

I came into this thread late. I'm embarrassed that I didn't pick up on the sarcasm.
