Valentine Thread: Set to visit this weekend....maybe.

The D'Onofrio-Champagnat incident has been talked about on here before, but I will go through it again. Drummond and Tunsil claim that D'Onofrio called their school a "dump" to one of their players (Joe Jones 2012 class), and that kid ended up transferring to Chaminade because he said that Miami (D'Onofrio) told him he would not offer him if he was at Champagnat. I will emphasize that this is according to Drummond and Tunsil so I'm not sure if the kid made that up to avoid having to explain why he transferred. Whether it was true or not, they took it to heart and have not been a fan of D'Onofrio since.

This story could be bull**** Pete. Consider the sources.

TV isn't the only Champagnat kid with a Miami offer.

Which is why I said that Drummond and Tunsil "claimed" it happened. I have no proof of it and doubt it as well.

To your point about the other kids with Champagnat offers, Coley handed those out.

So what do you think is the real reason they don't like us?

I think that is the reason they don't like D'Onofrio. I'm saying that whether or not the incident happened, they believe it did.

Gotcha. Has Golden tried to clear the situation up?

Weird I couldnt find his pic with Al Golden anywhere. You know the Head Coach that coaches the closest to his school. Seems legit

So just to clear this up:

Hurlie, who is really close to the family, can't even get an answer from them any more
Mom, who was a huge factor, is no longer a factor

Pretty interesting/odd turn of events.

Option 1 - Admit Onfrio and Golden's scheme sucks and maybe, just maybe, the kid was swayed because he doesn't want to be dropping into coverage or told not to rush upfield in order to occupy multiple blockers. Maybe, just maybe...he made a decision based on the results ON THE FIELD.

Option 2 - Blame it on street agents, money, and in general...circumstances out of Golden's control thus the fat *** car salesman can't be blamed and Don Bailey Jr equilibrium is reached.

Sorry to interrupt Don Bailey Jr excuse hour....as you were.

Complete and pervavsive contextual ignorance. You have no clue what you are talking about as it relates to this specific recruit. It's a buyout. All that's missing is the invoice stamped in purple and whatever color of urine they pair with it.

Any other D line recruit might be a different story. I don't have any knowledge on them.

WTF are you talking about?

I'm fully aware cash comes into play with recruits...but that's always been the case. My point is very simple...these Don Bailey Jr fools will EXCLUSIVELY blame missing out on top recruits on cash, street agents, and whatever the **** else they can make up. All in the name of not admitting Golden simply isn't getting the job done.

Well, even those are not mutually exclusive. It might be that some kid walks away from UM exclusively because of money, street agents, etc., and the staff still isn't getting the job done.

In that context, pointing to scheme and other issues to explain that kid's departure, in effect, would be excusing the shady stuff, as the kid would have come notwithstanding the scheme issues.

Bottom line--we don't know if it is one, the other or a combination. We're all guessing and no one's guess is better than any other at this stage.

And, I'm not defending the staff here.

Some people cant put aside their obsession with trashing the staff long enough to see the forest for the trees. I have no doubt that TV and probably many other kids were concerned about our struggles, but most other programs had struggles this year too. UGA went 8-5 this year, and amazingly managed to come to So Fla, and get "life long Canes fan", who we had recruited since the 8th grade, to commit to UGA, and refuse to talk to our coaches, or even take an OV. But people think its because of Richt's Jedi mind power, and that our staff apparently shows up to talk to kids wearing big red noses and floppy shoes. The act like the fact a kid has a notorious street agent as his "representative" pushing him to a notoriously dirty $EC program, and thats not going to have any impact.

Hold on a second.....are you seriously saying that Mark Richt is a Jedi???

To me that is even MORE telling about the kind of place Champagnat is. If our DC really was telling a kid he would not offer him if he was at that program. Couple that with all the smoke and talk bout this school, and what's the real story there Pete? Place sounds shady as ****.

STFU CAPS. Michigan St told my friend they wouldn't recruit him if he stayed at Columbus High and told him to transfer to St Thomas.

Columbus ******* High School which is no slouch academically or athletically. So do us all a favor and shut up.

I've heard similar stories

What a cluster ****.......
Genron this, Genron that, the bottom line is that as it stands now, we are in position to only sign one NT from the HS level the last two years. No Bueno, regardless the situation. All this means is that we continue to be put into the frustrating situation of having to find academically eligible JUCO DTs, who also happen to be worthy of a schollys, meaning a rare combo......
Sucks, and unacceptable.

Just to confirm nobody recently has spoken directly to Valentine or his parents. In addition, as of 12:21 PM on 1/28/14 it is unknown whether he will take an official visit this weekend to Miami.

Of course. We are looking at a NT spot of Wyche, Moore, Jenkins right in the face. Not good.

That said this thread is about TVs recruitment.

I have no clue what's going on with this situation as well as other like Peterson who we couldn't land. If this truly is an issue with money and the same players (handlers) consistently being paid off, why has no one done an investigative journalism piece on it? It just seems like it would be easier to investigate 1 or 2 handlers than investigate schools.

Pete,

How many kids play on Champagant's football team? I assume it must be pretty small right? I mean if only 30 kids played on the football team, that would comprise 25% of the entire High school. And a half dozen of those kids a year are getting D1 offers.... for a program that doesnt even have a football field or a weight room.

This doesnt strike anyone as odd?

He looks like Beatle Juice from Howard Stern.

Watching Valentine go beast mode on the sec in an LSU uniform is gonna make me ******* sick to my stomach.
