I don't understand how they sucked.... and even with how "bad" they were, they still managed to recruit top 5 classes

I dont think many other coaches would fare well with what Miami has had on the roster since 2010. FSU has had top classes and Jameis took them over the hump. Bama has Saban and the SEC lure, A great QB will win you a few extra games. I dont think some of you fans realize Curtis Porter, Justin Renfrow, Luther Robinson and so on probably wouldnt start at the schools that we gave up those 500 yards to.

You tell me who?.. what other big name coach is gonna come in and make us immediately dominant for 2.2 million a year. How many coaches would have stuck through what this program went through? I'll wait until Al's recruits are RS Seniors, Seniors, RS juniors and Juniors in 2015 until i start to think about who else should fix the talent.

Go back and look at our signing classes since the 2010 season and look at the amount of kids no longer a part of this team from those classes. That plays a part as to why we lack depth at key positions. Go look at all the kids that were once committed to UM and chose to go elsewhere due to the investigation. Its not like we're missing on kids who choose to go to UCF or USF. We're missing on kids that choose to go to bigger and better programs than ours at the moment. Georgia doesn't get every top prospect from georgia, LSU doesn't get every top prospect from Louisiana and USC doesn't get every kid out of southern california.

Most of the people actually affiliated with LSU will care about academics - the faculty, the students, and their parents.

In my senior year, our team (neither LSU nor UM) went to the final four in basketball. I was a big basketball fan, so I was very excited about it, but almost none of the faculty and very few of the other students seemed to care much. They were much more concerned with academics. I was actually pretty disappointed that I had trouble finding anyone who was particularly interested in talking about the success of the team.

I know a couple of professors at UM, and I would be very surprised if either one could tell me what the Canes' record in football was this year. I'm not even sure they could tell me that the team is called the "Hurricanes" or that the mascot is an ibis. I know several students at UM, and their interest in football is tepid at best. They have, as they would see it, much bigger fish to fry trying to get A's in their courses.

I am a big football fan, as are most of the people browsing this site. But if you think everybody else is, you're wrong. Most women and lots of men just don't care. I live in a condominium complex. People here are into their kids, their pets, their possessions, politics, gossip, etc. Football - not so much.

The purpose of "education" is to turn out happy students-- to assist them in what they need for happiness. The purpose of the Prussian education system, which is basically the model followed in the US thanks to the German '48's, is to turn out useful citizens of the type the State needs. 50 years ago the system turned out problem solvers and decision makers. Gov't clearly decided it didn't need those types any longer. Now the system turns out group-think, get along, let's be friends, whatever type of citizens. Today it is more important to learn how to get along than to be a "captain of industry" and more important to learn how to follow than to lead -- at least that certain what it appears the government wants as useful citizens.

Personally, I would like our players to get degrees like they have for the most part since JJ took over. Miami had great grad rates in our glory days. THE U should have been extremely proud of those teams as ideal examples of Americans. They kick everyone rear ends AND took the paper home on the way to the NFL. Foote was an idiot and Donna is no better. Why shouldn't the school take in kids that might not be performing up to norms and work to get them degrees? The greatest example of an offender back in the day was Thill Hill. The Tunnel shot out will live forever in ncca rule book. I am fairly sure Hill left with a Masters. If there is something wrong or embarrassing or in any way a failure about that young man, then there is something wrong with the evaluation system making that judgment.

Most of the old Canes seem to be very happy individuals. By what I was taught in education courses, that equals success in their education. So many of the other ex-players I see on tv seem angry, usually at THE U, and bitter. Even other ex-coaches seems bitter. The measure of success of todays U will be measured by the happiness in life of its grads in the future.

When we put education first everyone wins. Personally, I have very serious doubts that either Bo or Travonte were cut from the cloth necessary to succeed at UM. They look like shortcut takers to me. Clock watchers.
