USF QB Spy?????

before gameday, this thread will be advocating for zero in coverage and total jailbreak blitz packages on each down.

CIS gon CIS.
Shouldn't we just tell our 4 DL to rush with Mother Theresa like integrity then just tell the other 7 guys to try to kill Brown if he crosses the LOS? (I know not tuff and fyzikal enuff)

Hetherman needs to showcase he can manage mobile QB’s because we will be seeing quite a bit of them for the following 5 games.

One good thing about not relying on blitzes every down is you have better contain overall. I hope we’re able to get to the QB with just 4 (or 3)

I’m the opposite. I want 4 guys crashing and two LBs zoning the underneath and QB runs at the LOS.
Am with you. If we're up 2+ scores in second half go ahead and unleash the dogs of war of course cause quick passing game not much of a threat then. I don't think sending numbers behind the LOS against Brown makes sense until that point though

Just run zone and keep eyes on him. Squeeze him in the pocket and make him pick you apart. He's still a spotty passer
This. Zone and make him hit zones he still doesn’t look like a good passer. Dline needs to be contain him in that pocket and squeeze him for sacks… they get lackadaisical and leave wide open green grass he’s gonna pull it without a second thought about what’s going on downfield and take the 5-8

Not impressed with him when kept in the pocket/ passing.

I will say this, hes big and pretty powerful for a QB. I dont think Pruitt/ Lightfoot will be the guys spying him, put it that way.

Why we worried
Just cuz they barely beat a jag Florida team that did everything to essentially give them the win
If u guys can’t see this team is so different than prior years
We are so good in the trentches finally that teams like this simply can’t hang
It’s like when gt was running the option, we would beat them in close games
But when a team like Clemson and their dline played them, they would completely shut that mess down

They are worried because they have watched this team lose to a bad tech team two years ago and not take a knee.

Lose to another bad tech team with a QB with one arm.

Lose a 21pt lead with the playoffs on the line.

So yeah, I’m in the group that every week will be a battle until proven otherwise.

Does Miami have superior talent than usf? Yes
Does usf likely have a letdown this week? Yes
Does Mario like to lose games he should win? Yes

With all that being said Miami should win by 10+ if they protect the ball.

I feel like a lot of people didn’t watch the USF game last year. We didn’t do anything special to contain the run. We kept disciplined rush lanes and collapsed the pocket from the inside. We actually got hurt by Brown’s passing a lot more than his running but that’s because USF exposed our inability to handle the tiniest bit of motion or actually cover anyone.

I personally only like spying the quarterback situationally. Maybe like a third and medium where you want to play man coverage but a short scramble could get a first down. Or maybe where you want to play quarters coverage but would like to keep an “in the box” linebacker to play the draw. Otherwise using a guy to just shadow the quarterback leaves one less defender for the rest of the offense to account for.

Some simple cover three where you can keep a safety a little closer to the line of scrimmage while allowing everyone to keep an eye on the quarterback would be an easy choice. You can shift that into cover one man without making it too obvious.

Of course the old “get out to a lead and make them throw the ball” is probably the best scenario. USF plays very fast but they’re very inefficient offensively. They don’t gain yardage consistently so that can lead to a lot of CIS fan favorite, no huddle three and outs. Force a couple of those and turn them into scores early and it completely changes their game plan and makes them do things they don’t want to do offensively. The absolute worst thing we can do is **** around offensively like UF did and allow them to stay within striking distance. Get the ball, score touchdowns and make them try to keep pace like we did last year.

College Football GIF by Miami Hurricanes

All night long….

They stay close last year through 2 1/2 quarters and we had a terrible defense and we still won going away. I’m not that worried about this game. It was more of a horrible matchup for Billy Napier in the Florida soon to fire gators.
This is college football. Every team has talent and they have a quick game and running QB who has hurt Miami for years. Yes we should win, but nothing is given. A new scheme to defend will be a test for a new DC who hasn’t really faced this type of scheme in the Big 10.
