I've never gotten the full story on how Butch's departure went down. At the time I was ****ed as **** as he had just basically said he wasnt leaving then boom hes gone! But I was consumed by parties, drugs and pvssy back in that era, so I'm sure there was a lot that went down that I was never aware of.

UM wanted Butch to pay 80% of his buyout....Butch wanted more $$ for his assistants.....UM had alot of nerve to throw a Mack Truck pile of **** in his lap as a 42yr old 1st time HC...Watch him in 5yrs make the FB team the talk of CFB...Then when it was time to Pay him what he deserved, they Balked....

That's garbage. I was always so bummed that he didn't get to win that natty in '01. It also lead to people thinking Larry Coker was a good coach, which anyone with half a brain at the time should have known he wasn't. Good human, not a good coach.

but he's better than AG,MR, and Manuel combined. I aint saying he's Nick Saban but he can out recruit him, besides, you give Nick average talent he's a 600 coach like everybody else.

Orlando, you know Butch, i know Jimmy, next time i'm down there i'm gonna ask him wtf is wrong with these peeps runnin The U, he'll tell me straight up. IMO if MR had of been fired a week later we woulda hired BD, it was nearly a done deal, am i correct, just my speculation
 
The problem when telling a story you have an unhealthy emotional investment in is you lose all your perspective.

Butch didn’t just wake up one day and decide he was going to Cleveland. He had been talking to them WHILE negotiating with UM. He kept talking to them even after allegedly reaching a financial agreement on the flight back from the Sugar Bowl.

Maybe that’s why they wanted such a high buyout.

Either way, anyone who thinks he was going to walk from $15 million plus guaranteed to stay at UM is either delusional or a cult member.

And before anyone accuses me of hating on him, I don’t. I’d have done the same **** thing, as would any other sane person.

But for God’s sake stop revising history.

Yeah, that theme is out there. It has double layers of recent logic because the new USC president came directly from North Carolina, where they were cleaning up an athletic scandal and tarnished reputation of their own.

As you indicated, some insiders say that 1 or 2 football boosters are so influential they may be able to dictate matters via sheer numbers, no matter her intention.

I'm not sure about that. USC fund raising is surreal. They set lofty goals and blow them away. More than $7 billion. The new USC Village is testimony to how much money is rolling in. The targeted fundraising campaign ended last year. But I think Folt can stand her ground and assert her own priorities. That $7 billion fortified one aspect of the university after another. New research labs. New living facilities. And so forth. The university is in great shape other than recent scandals and therefore the stain they apply. I suspect her focus will be on that area, and not the simplistic angry males whining about the football bottom line.

And Ultimately gave the NCAA a HUGE Middle finger....Butch basically told the NCAA to suck his D*ck....They thought they all but ended the program as we knew it......

our fans **** on that man. he changed lives of a ton of players AND coaches forever. If he came here instead of richt, we are in playoffs by now, all the local coaches were sending kids to play for him.

I've asked the following question for 15yrs, and all the responses have been the same regurgitated BS.....
Since Butch's Kids and Assistants have left (2004) How's things been??...If Butch stays....our 2002...03...04 and 05 classes would've been Historic...instead of Clappy's Godforsaken classes...You think Butch and Soldinger Whiff on Adrian Peterson, who Coker Whiffed on?? (AP was Highly interested)....You think Butch invests highly in Kirby Freeman and Marve??...Lol....
It Kills me when I think of "What could've been"...Which to be quite Honest, has haunted me for 15yrs...I have Absolutely no doubt we'd have 7-8 NCs....None

His Former UM players LOVE Him (except for Portis, who never saw eye to eye with Butch, and Vice a Versa)...His former UM players still to this day keep in touch...that I personally know...Ask...
