Urban Meyer on Miami Job

I think this post says a lot. The top schools still cherry pick the best kids from Florida, but they don’t build through Florida. Bama and LSU build through LA, MS, AL, and Texas. Georgia and Clemson build through Georgia and the Carolinas. OSU builds through Ohio and the northeast with a strong national presence as well. OU goes through Texas.

It’s tougher to build a strong foundation for a team through Florida players.

this right here^^^this is exactly what I’ve been saying. Those teams cherry pick FL, but are in no way building through Florida. Clemson has one FL guy starting, LSU has none, and Ohio State only has 2. OU has none this year, and only had 1 in previous years (Hollywood)

Some posting on CIS will have you believe the very lifeblood of those teams are from FL talent but that’s not even remotely true. Not even close to being true.

Build your team with Florida players and you get Miami over the past 16 years and FSU over the past decade.

Been saying that all along and have been getting shredded. These cats think that south Florida has tons of talent because of Jerry Jeudy.

This post deserves its on thread... great point to discuss.

Remember FSU won its last national championship in 2013 and went through a 5 or 6 year period under Jimbo where they were viewed as one of the best programs in college football during that time. We’ve been a terrible fb program for a long time.

What teams have the resources to build the foundation of their team through Florida when they aren't based in Florida? It just doesn't make sense. They are taking the ELITE players from Florida. The guys who they are then turning into 1st round picks and using to recruit future elite players from Florida. They don't have to get 20 Florida players each class, but the Top 10 and even 15-20ish players in Florida in some years are on their rosters.

I was going to post this, people keep saying almost a decade and brought up fau but FSU won a title 6 years ago and UCF won their conference and went undefeated 2 years ago. There's plenty of talent still in Florida, you have to have the right coach.

Which is why when you pair largely underdeveloped players in terms of actual skill(not talking about talent) with non quality coaching you get the constant results we have gotten since Coker and his staff in his early years left which had multiple nfl quality assistants. We got to get back to hiring competent coaches, it’s simple
School seems to have an affirmative action program going for crappy coaches or maybe they just hate winning(more likely I think)

If the state of Florida has deep and near infinite pool of elite talent walking around from year to year, as many of you posit, what difference does it make to lose 4-5 elite guys from that pool (spread out over 4-5 out of state teams)? On one hand you can’t talk about how deep and talented the state of Florida is, and other the other cry about a mere fraction of talent getting cherry picked. You can’t have it both ways.

The only way the cherry picking argument (only a handful of guys in play) works and makes a dent into Miami recruiting is if the talent in Florida isn’t as talented or deep as you all say.

In fact, the cherry-picking has been happening for 35 years.

The difference is the training, coaching, and just as important, the talent level in Florida is not as diverse as other talent laden states (Carolinas, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Cali, Virginia, DC Metro, Ohio Valley). Those states gives you the full range of talents: Big/Tall fast WRs, TEs, trench warfare (OL/DL studs), QBs, DBs, RBs, linebackers and the once in a generation athletic freaks.

Florida “mostly” gives you a bunch of fast, skinny guys. What did Mark Richt say his first day meeting the team: “Where are the big dudes”?

On whose rosters? The current college football rosters account for the last 4+ recruiting classes combined, and there are just a handful of Florida guys having any impact at all on the playoff teams.

Thank you.

I’ve been beating this drum for YEARS. Florida kids are stupider and softer than kids from other parts of America.

“But but but....south florida, bro!” Lmao.

Well now one of the greatest and most respected college football minds has told you what’s up.

Even when you show them how few guys are going off and having an impact, they come back with "Lamar Jackson bro!"

2 DEs taken in the 1st round just last year from Florida. Just because we're landing the non-elite talent doesn't make it any less elite. Brian Burns was also a skinny dude that went in the first round.

The talent is deep. We just have been terrible at evaluating and recruiting it over the last 15 years. But guess what, even with that, we're still pumping out NFL players on the same level as the ELITE CFB teams. That's the sad part about it all.

He may have said that, but what he really meant was he could take the Miami job and kick everybody's *** in year two if the admin would stay off his back

We're talking about Florida kids having an impact across college football. Your answer is "6 guys"?
My answer is that going over the last 4 years, there are more than a "handful" of kids making an impact across college football. That assertion is wrong. My proof is that 6 kids alone were drafted in the first round last year, and we can look at that draft and other drafts and see many more kids being drafted from Florida. We can look at All-Conference lists across the country too. You're wrong by an metric of calculation.
