Upon Further Review: Miami vs. Notre Dame

Evergreen post. You could literally copypasta this for the past 25 years.

It is what it is. Some games we'll be playing the other team and the zebras.
Hence why I’m struggling to find a solution. Nothing seems to work. Coker and Richt tried to be gentleman. Manny whined. Jimmy ignored them.

Why not try to verbally abuse them like Saban? Can’t hurt.

Moten looked really good from what I saw live in the first half. I think he tired out. We need more than a 3 man rotation for 2 trench positions that require all out effort on every snap.

Scott and Thomas may have made a couple mistakes. But thank god for those two transfers. We really dodged a bullet at S by landing them. Poyser definitely a cause for concern. Gotta bring along Fitzgerald quickly.

I honestly expected Toure to play better. And Chase missing his assignment bums me out. Need our LBs to start playing to the level of our DL And CBs.

He was hurt in camp. I don’t know if that’s why he blocked poorly on Sunday. We have a lot of film of him lead blocking last year and blowing people up so that would be my assumption, but I don’t know that for sure.

We need to get him and Trader rolling now that they are healthier.
Keep him off the field if he is that much of negative, he was whiffing ALOT..

man played rb his whole hs career.

I always thought he would only be an avg at best blocker. he could do some slicing occasionally..but that was against nd...he likely looks a bit better with change of competition.
I think D$ is probably right in that he's better as a move blocker, rather than head up on a player (though he struggled as a slicer in split zone in this one).

I'm not throwing the guy out, it's just that I try to do these like a coach would (though I do call out officiating whereas a coach really would only call out our penalties). He struggled in this one.

I will add after finally rewatching game, it wasnt just lofton either, both TE dont block as well as last year guys.. Does Cam have a 10th year available?!

Missing old man Cam?

i said this repeatedly during the game. the TE was late on the wham block too many times, throwing off the timing and allowing the end to disrput the play. i understand lofton was hurt and maybe that's the reason. disirregardlessly, mirabal and mario will get this fixed.

conclusion: a lot of Fogo de Chao prime beef left on the bone.

@Lance Roffers you are much appreciated.

LB room needs an infusion like the DL got with Scott

Wiley might take a little while but we need an actual playmaker sideline to sideline. Bobby Washington might have been that guy unfortunately the injury. Pruitt not sure yet.

But end of the day we had some mistakes but we held what was supposed to be the best line and best RB attack we would face all year in check. Can’t do that without solid LB play

Good stuff @Lance Roffers also you need to take a few more victory laps around the place after some of your takes, I stumbled across the below post of yours from a month ago in the Jakobe Thomas thread:
This kid is a perfect for the defense in my view. You need physical safeties who can become a part of the run fit with how much they insert creepers. In the fit is more than just a force role, where you're asked to hold an edge and force a runner back inside. In the fit you become like a fill LB or at the very best a chase player.

Miami now has two of those in Poyser and Thomas. Dylan Day can be a bit more of a specialist this year as he grows into his frame and gets more experience as a box player.

Adding Thomas and the Auburn nickel were perfect fits for a specific role in this defense (along with Toure). You could see exactly what Hetherman was looking to add with each of them.

When we signed thomas, toure and scott I candidly did not really know who they were and was not familiar with their playing style, I was pleasantly surprised Sunday by all 3 and thought they fit perfect in that defense and (with the exception of Toure who got a lot of preseason buzz on the board) exceeded my expectations then I saw the above from you and it made perfect sense, kudos to you.

One question, do you ever do these for other teams or who do you think is the top team in CFB right now? I know regardless of team there is never a perfect game and even an NFL breakdown would have a lot of teaching moments on tape. I know comparing this to the Manny breakdowns is much better, we dont seem to have as many dumb errors and we look the part. And part of me was happy to feel like we dominated the way we did and to still see how we have a lot of coachable moments in tape and left meat on the bone, other side of me was discouraged that in year 4 we are still cleaning up the same problems we had in year 1 but I wonder how our breakdown would compare to who you consider a top team?

Lance, great writeup, thanks. I noticed Lofton's poor blocking during the game, didn't realize there were multiple incidents. Really think this kid can be an effective weapon for us, but if he can't block, like a RB who can't pass protect, we can't use him. Hope he puts the work in on getting better. Also, disappointed in Toure, was hopeful that he'd be a real difference maker at LB.
