Upon Further Review: Miami Spring Game

So Leonard Taylor and James Williams(who arent on campus yet) are ready to start against Bama, but Flagg who is in his second year is not ready? I do agree we need more LB help I guess.
Flagg doesn’t have the talent or athleticism as Taylor & Williams. It simply doesn’t matter if their true freshmen or not. Taylor & Williams are Bama type athletes. They have to be on the field week 1 & play a lot of snaps for us to be close to competitive.

I wouldn’t mind Johnson & Harvey as the starting DEs but Leonard Taylor is just too special not to get “starter” reps. He’s IMO the best player in the nation (247 has him at 3 respectfully). James Williams is a chess piece that has to see the field idc where at. Best safety prospect since Derwin James IMO.

That's how I felt about Chase Smith, so I respect your opinion. Chase balled out in Winter/Spring camp. Let's see how Taylor and JW do in Summer camp. If they perform like expected, I have no doubt they'll be seeing a lot of action this year.

So your logic is you’re counting two true freshmen who’ll have about a dozen total practices under their belt to be the difference in a win against Bama.
They’ll be the difference on defense. These two guys are premium top tier talents that Miami hasn’t had in a very long time. Taylor is arguable the best player in the nation & James Williams isn’t too far from him. Both are top 5 talents imo

The answer lies in the question.

A lot of coaches drill the what not the why and how. Defenders end up thinking about their landmark and the importance of rallying to make the tackle instead of processing release/route combination tendencies and stopping what the offense is trying to do.

Egotistical DCs think they can control the game with their perfect calls instead of just implementing sound defensive schemes and principles, and teaching them in depth. Why do you think Miami runs so many exotic zone blitzes and aggressive early down run defense schemes?

Soooo Shoop didn’t save the defense with his second pair of eyeballs?

Talent can only take you so far when you're young and developing with major flaws in your game. Relying on Fr DTs vs a team like Alabama is a recipe for disaster. Taylor is a very finesse player who's athletic but undersized and doesn't anchor and fight pressure against the run. Williams is a freelancer who misses a ton of tackles and needs to learn the defense. You're getting caught up in recruiting hype - if these guys are playing a lot of snaps vs Bama it will be a bloodbath.

No they won’t be. But hopefully they will be down the road.

Once again I repeat Taylor should play DE snaps freshmen year over McCloud. If a top 5 talent can’t see DE snaps over McCloud then coaching is the problem. As for James Williams the same thing can be said. If the staff continues to put guys like Carter out there over JW then I have zero faith or confidence this staff.

Malachi Moore (4 star) wasn’t an EE & he started/made an instant impact for Bama. 44 tackles & 3 ints at the famous star position. Arguably the most important role for Bama’s defense. But you guys on here are telling me LT & JW (5 stars) can’t come into fall camp & see starter reps for us is laughable. If this staff is who y’all claim it to be then it shouldn’t be no problems. Coaches get paid top dollars to get their best players ready point blank period. Simpson & T-Rob earn your paycheck.

Im with you Seas, Taylor will be at his best this season as a 3rd down rush specialist, when UM is ahead and you know the other team has to throw, and games that are blowouts and he can just pin his ears back. Not saying he can't play an important role, but it will be limited

Yeah I'll take his talent at DE over McCloud for sure. With Carter I disagree for the time being. From what I've seen Williams isn't ready for more than special teams work and there's enough depth with Balom and Avantae that it's possible neither Carter or Williams play much.

Lol at the idea of Balom seeing the field here let alone seeing the field over JW. From everything I’ve heard JW’s IQ is off the charts. That alone should get him on the field over guys like Carter, Balom etc...

Tackling is a major problem for him right now. I'm not gonna anoint him until I see it fixed. I do love his movement skills as a deep safety or even corner. It's insane that we have fans who think he should be an LB.

As for Balom I'm not alone in thinking he's a solid all-around player with good range in coverage. Give me the safety who consistently does his job over the flashy unreliable types.

Balom is not a Miami caliber player. I understand all the optimism but come on now be realistic. A 3 star with a horrendous offer list lol the jokes write themselves on this board. STARS & TALENT matter whether you guys like it or not. Ask Bama, Ohio State, & Clemson the teams that consistently make the playoffs & dominate their conference.

That’s amazing. Congratulations to your son and Marshall as well. Both hard-working young men. Kudos to them. You can’t say neither was not hard-working. You must be very proud. And play football and be in the program, wow, he has a bright future ahead of him, as does your son!
My son thought about walking on, but thought better of it. A documented concussion and out goes pilot training. Playing club lacrosse if they ever kick back up.

Oh yeah, those flight requirements are pretty thorough.

He’s all set anyway, just has to stay with the grind.

I’m starting to think you’re trolling.

Tvd had some picks early in camp and after that he was very careful going forward. He had a really good camp.

Love it.

Getting the ball out quick and staying ahead of the chains is what takes this offense to the next. That was the most exciting thing about this game.

I been beating this drum for years. It’s so obvious. We have been boom or bust for a long time. Those 5, 6 or even more gains make all the difference. Going pow instead of bust will give us even more boom.

I hope King can do it too, when he is ready. Those passes with his running and the deep shots can make us a top 20 offense.

Naw I’ma realist fan. The best players need to see the field regardless of age/inexperience. Looking forward to see LT & JW development from now until September 1st. 🙌🏽
I’m curious how long you’ve been following college football and recruiting . The level you’re crowning Williams and Taylor before they’ve even played a practice snap makes me think you’re a casual watcher. By your logic Mark Pope the former 5 star WR is the best WR on our team right ? I mean when you look at the stars, look at his offers, it doesn’t matter what we see with our own eyes huh
