Updates on Canes commits/targets in action this season

I had the chance to see Jamie Gordonier last night. Kid looks every bit the 6'4 230 he's listed at. He's got a long body and looks physically more like a tight end/rush LB than a pure stand up (like a Brian Cushing body type). If he's 230 now, his frame could get to 245 no problem. That said, he was smooth playing a true OLB and only rushed a few times on designed blitzes.

He's quicker than I expected. The team he was playing had a QB that tried to get to the edge on him a couple times in the first half, but that worked exactly zero times.

As far as overall impact on the game, he didn't exactly set the world on fire because his front four simply overmatched the opponent's OL. He played his coverage and cleaned up a lot of piles, but he wasn't needed to do much. Come half time up 34-0 he was just coming in for certain specials and spot duty on D.

I'm excited about his potential. He's a guy that gives you a TE stopper and a solid presence in the run game; which works well because it will free up our SoFl athletes to make plays.

@WHS_athletics1: Ahmmon Richards with the 52 yard int for a touchdown.

Sounds like a defensive back to me

Besides the fact that hes had multiple td receptions every game thus far.

I miss having DBs who can score TDs and are athletic enough to star on offense.

We played against him last night. Our team sucks. We all just got hired in Aug to turn program around. After game talked to him a little, this kid is going to be great for us. Has his head on straight, big kid can play either db or WR, and very humble. His QB isn't great will throw it into triple coverage to him knowing he will do everything to get the ball.

Yea but i rarely here about his defensive skills this kid gets open and to the house like three times a game if its dbs we want there are way more talebted ones than placing richards there. Saivon, Mullens, Josh dunn, dcw, and wright are all overly qualified and would be huge gets imo.

To above post another guy that not an explosive athlete.

Where's the next Dan Morgan we can give number 44 to? This guy is another jag FML

Explosive athletes alone don't make a roster. The problem is that a lot of the great athletes we have had on defense don't know how to play the game or have their heads too far up their own butts to play it well (aka the south Florida curse). I know that coaching is the first thing that gets thrown out to fix that, but mature players need to be the steady force.

@AndreMHsports: Jordan Scarlett 2 yard TD run. Aquinas 7, Miramar 0. 2nd qtr. 11:47 left. @HeraldSports

I found this on Rivals this morning:
SOUTH FLORIDA - This week's tour of Miami-area schools included three games -- Coral Reef at Killian, Coral Springs at Hallandale and St. Thomas Aquinas at Miramar. Killian won 43-0, Hallandale won 28-20 and St. Thomas Aquinas won 20-12. Each game featured plenty of D-I prospects and here is a closer look at the top prospects from those games.
DE
Nick Bosa (2016)
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Hasn't named a favorite, but is a frequent visitor of Ohio State and plans to visit Florida State for a game this season.

Performance: When watching the 6-foot-4, 255-pound Bosa play, it's an easy conclusion to compare him to his older brother Joey, now one of the country's top defensive ends for Ohio State. The four-star had a tough matchup, often going up against three-star offensive tackle and Miami commit Leeward Brown. Bosa still made his presence felt, collecting a tackle for loss and two sacks. It's hard to imagine him going anywhere other than Ohio State at this point and he has a shot at being just as good - if not better - that his brother, who saw plenty of action as a true freshman last season.

Grade: A
OL
Leeward Brown
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Miami since February.

Performance: The three-star Brown on many plays was tasked with slowing down Bosa and did an excellent job. He stood his ground, moved well and recovered well when it was necessary. He's got great size at 6-foot-3, 345 pounds and could make an immediate impact for Miami as a true freshman.

Grade: B+
ATH
Jaquan Johnson
Miami Killian
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Miami since August.

Performance: Johnson posted an impressive do-it-all performance, displaying the athleticism that has earned him four stars and offers from some of the top programs in the country. He lined up at quarterback on a number of wildcat plays, returned punts and played linebacker. He had some good runs in the wildcat, including a 15-yard gain and made a monster hit on defense to record a tackle for loss. But he changed the game and did most of his damage in the punt return game, with a 46-yard return and then a 60-yard return that went for a touchdown. At 5-foot-10, 172 pounds, Johnson is a strong, physical athlete with great speed. He will play safety for the Hurricanes at the next level.

Grade: B+
RB
Jordan Scarlett
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Miami since July.

Performance: Scarlett had a 22-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal and later had a key 30-yard run down the sideline. At 5-foot-11, 205-pounds, Scarlett is a bruising, workhorse-type back with good speed to boot. He and Deltron Sands complement each other nicely in the run game, which is the strength of the Raiders' offense.

Grade: B
DB
Tyrek Cole
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: De-committed from Florida State on Monday and committed to West Virginia.

Performance: The four-star was tasked with covering the Raiders' talented receiving corps and was often matched up against four-stars Devante Peete and Sam Bruce. Cole passed nearly all tests, including knocking down a touchdown pass intended for Bruce. The only blemish for the 5-foot-11, 162-pound Cole was a pass interference penalty when trying to cover Taylor. Cole is an excellent defender with the talent to make an impact at the next level, but his off-the-field concerns remain persistent and could prevent him from reaching his potential.

Grade: B
DB
Kendrell McFadden
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Committed to West Virginia since January.

Performance: The 6-foot-1, 191-pound four-star had perhaps the game's most crushing hit when he laid out one of the state's most physical running backs in Jordan Scarlett. McFadden possesses ideal size for a safety and is also a great athlete. It wouldn't be surprising to see him on the field next year as a true freshman.

Grade: B
LB
Bryton Dieujuste
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Holds an offer from Tennessee State.

Performance: Nicknamed "The Juice," the 6-foot-2, 217-pound three-star made several big plays including a tackle for a loss and sacking the quarterback for a safety. While Diejuste currently holds just one offer, his playmaking ability and prominent role in the Patriots defense should lead to more interest from schools.

Grade: B
DE
Darrel Swanson
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Holds offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Marshall and Miami (Ohio).

Performance: The 6-foot-3, 205-pound two-star has decent athleticism and made his presence felt with a sack which forced a St. Thomas Aquinas turnover on downs. He also assisted on another sack for a safety, as well as a tackle for loss on Jordan Scarlett. Swanson will want to bulk up to be effective at the next level and may need a redshirt season to do so.

Grade: B
LB
Bruce Davis
Miami Killian
Recruiting wrap: Holds 13 offers, most notably Cincinnati, Marshall and Syracuse.

Performance: Davis was quick to the ball and had numerous tackles. At 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, Davis is a two-star prospect and has good size and instincts.

Grade: B
WR
Anthony Olivencia
Miami Killian
Recruiting wrap: Holds five offers, including Appalachian State, Marshall and UCF; will take an official visit to Marshall on Oct. 10.

Performance: Olivencia made a remarkable catch on a ball thrown behind him, twisting his body mid-route and reaching back for a one-handed grab. The play before he drew a pass interference penalty. At 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Olivencia has great size and hands. While he won't torch a defense with speed, he runs a good route. He's a candidate for star consideration and it's easy to see why he has D-1 offers.

Grade: B
DB
Sheldrick Redwine
Miami Killian
Recruiting wrap: Lists Louisville as his favorite, top five also includes West Virginia, UCF, Kentucky and South Florida.

Performance: The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Redwine is a big, physical cornerback with good speed. He had a monster hit in the kick return game to stop the ball carrier dead in his tracks. The three-star would be a big get for Louisville should the Cardinals remain his favorite.

Grade: B
DE
Dana Levine
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Syracuse since May.

Performance: The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Levine made plays throughout the night, including two sacks - one for a 10-yard loss - and had a pass deflection. He should be a good addition to the Syracuse defense.

Grade: B
LB
Juwan Taylor
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Georgia since June.

Performance: Taylor played both ways for Hallandale and made an impact on each side of the ball. On defense, he recorded a tackle for loss and on offense he caught an 11-yard touchdown reception. The three-star Taylor stands at 6-feet, 196 pounds and has good size and speed that will give Georgia another young prospect who could potentially contribute as a true freshman.

Grade: B
LB
Sh'Mar Kilby-Lane
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Florida State since June.

Performance: Kilby-Lane was a ball hawk and lived up to his four-star billing. Of his numerous tackles, one was for a loss and the other was for no gain. Kilby-Lane stands at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and is an intimidating presence. He plays with attitude and a competitive edge.

Grade: B
RB
Taj McGowan
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
Recruiting wrap: Committed to UCF since June.

Performance: At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, the two-star is a big, bruising back with good speed. He's grown a lot over the offseason, as just a year ago he stood at 5-foot-10, 176 pounds. He had an impressive 20-yard touchdown run and also ran for several first downs. He has the ability to make an immediate impact at the next level.

Grade: B
DB
Malik Henderson
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
Recruiting wrap: committed to Pittsburgh since June.

Performance: Henderson has good instincts and technique, best demonstrated by a key open-field tackle on a fourth-and-short shovel pass. He was in position, squared up and made a solid hit. The two-star stands at 6-feet, 174 pounds.

Grade: B
DB
Tyson Cisrow
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Holds more than 20 offers. He said in August that West Virginia is his leader.

Performance: The three-star helped swing the momentum permanently in the Raiders' favor with blocked punt. The 6-foot, 190-pound Cisrow is a playmaker and has ideal size for a safety.

Grade: B
QB
Demari Simpkins
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Holds an offer from Akron.

Performance: Simpkins possesses D-1 speed, best demonstrated by his 40-yard touchdown run. He's inconsistent with his accuracy, doesn't have great arm strength and is undersized (5-foot-9, 163 pounds), but he's deserving of attention from major programs as an athlete and that's likely where he has the most potential at the next level.

Grade: B-
DT
Brandon Boyce
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Duke since Dec. 2013.

Performance: The three-star had a big game, finishing with two sacks and one monster hit for a big loss. At 5-foot-10, 259-pounds, Boyce is strong and physical and while he's a bit undersized, he makes up for that with his explosiveness.

Grade: B-
WR
Sam Bruce (2016)
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Committed to Miami since July.

Performance: It was a quiet night for Bruce and the rest of the receiving corps, as the quarterback position is not one of strength for the Raiders. Bruce wasn't targeted much and had a potential touchdown pass blocked by Tyrek Cole. The 5-foot-8, 178-pound speedster didn't make any noteworthy plays, but was called for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for an altercation with Cole.

Grade: C
WR
Devante Peete
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Lists top five as Miami, Louisville, Ohio State, FSU and LSU. Plans to take official visits to FSU, Ohio State and Louisville.

Performance: Like Bruce, Peete was in the same boat and was never even targeted. Has to be frustrating for the four-star, who stands at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, not be given the opportunity make an impact. That shouldn't be a problem at the next level, however, and whichever school gets him is getting an immediate impact receiver.

Grade: C
WR
Jovon Durante
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Committed to West Virginia since April.

Performance: It was a quiet night in the passing game for both teams and Durante was held in check the entire game. He had a nice run after the catch on a screen pass, but the play was called back on a holding call. Durante also lost a fumble while fielding a kick in the return game. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound four-star possesses the talent to make an immediate impact for the Mountaineers as a true freshman next season.

Grade: C
RB
Alex Anderson
Miramar, Fla.
Recruiting wrap: Committed to West Virginia since May.

Performance: It was mostly a quiet night for the physical three-star running back, who stands at 6-feet, 194 pounds. The only play he made of impact was throwing an interception on a halfback option play. While he struggled in this game and has already missed games this season due to injury, he has the ability to be an asset in the Mountaineers running game as a true freshman.

Grade: C
RB
Deltron Sands
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting Wrap: De-committed from Maryland on Sept. 3, holds eight offers.

Performance: Sands' speed was on display on a nice 30-yard run, but for the most part, he was contained by the Miramar defense. The 5-foot-8, 173-pound three-star is keeping his options open after his de-commitment from Maryland and should see a few more offers come his way because of his potentially game-changing speed.

Grade: C

OTHER PROSPECTS
RB
Bentavious Thompson (2017)
Miami Killian
It's only a matter of time before Thompson is on the radar of D-I programs. At 6-feet, 183 pounds, Thompson possesses good size and speed and is Killian's feature back. He had a number of impressive runs, breaking tackles and using a good spin move to elude the defense. He also added two touchdown runs.
DL
Raekwon Adderly (2016)
Miami Killian
Adderly stands at 5-11, 240 pounds and made a few good plays including two sacks. He's a fringe D-1 prospect with potential.
DB
Juwan Horn (2017)
Miami Killian
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Horn has tremendous playmaking abilities that have already earned him a Temple offer. The more exposure he receives, the more offers he'll get. His most notable play was a fumble recovery.
ATH
Antwan Collier (2017)
Miami Killian
Collier (6-foot-2, 167 pounds) has good size and speed and manned the quarterback position. He had three impressive touchdown runs in the option game. He's very raw as a quarterback and will likely play another position at the next level, but his athleticism and playmaking ability as a runner will land him D-I offers in time.
DB
DiCaprio Bootle (2016)
Miami Killian
Though he didn't make any notable plays, he was up against an inept offense that couldn't move the ball through the air. However, his athleticism was on display and he showed strong coverage skills. He has interest from major programs including Duke, Temple, Tennessee and Washington and it's only a matter of time before one of those schools steps forward with an offer. This should be a big year for Bootle on the recruiting front, as this is his first year as a starter.
WR
Josh Hammond (2016)
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
The 6-foot, 170-pound Hammond made a nice catch and run on a fourth-and-1 play, extending the short pass to a 20-yard gain with his above-average speed. He holds an offer from Cincinnati and should see a few more offers come his way before the season ends.
QB
Tyler Huntley (2016)
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
The 6-foot, 170-pound Huntley holds offers from Appalachian State, Duquesne and Florida Atlantic. He threw touchdown passes of 11 and 60 yards, but struggled with accuracy, missing several open targets and throwing an interception. He made up for his inconsistency in the passing game with his speed, rushing for touchdowns of 15 and 60 yards and added another run of 40 yards.
DB
Jaelyn Faulk (2016)
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Faulk showed excellent speed and athleticism on a 40-yard interception return. He holds offers from Alcorn State and Duquesne and should add to that list as he continues to have a breakout season.
LB
Kory Johnson (2016)
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
Johnson always seemed to be in position to make a play, as was the case when he recovered a fumble that set up what would be the go-ahead drive for his offense. The 6-foot, 205-pound Johnson has good size and athleticism and holds offers from Akron and Alcorn State.
WR
Neru N'Shaka (2016)
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
N'Shaka stands at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds and holds an offer from Northern Illinois. He had a 30-yard touchdown reception and has good speed.
DE
Samy Jeanclaude
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
The two-star made several plays, most notably a sack. He's a big presence at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds and holds an offer from Alcorn State.
WR
Chris Cotto (2016)
Hallandale Beach (Fla.) Hallandale
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Cotto is a speedster and his playmaking ability was on display when he caught a 60-yard touchdown pass. He holds offers from Appalachian State and Duquesne and that list should continue to grow.
LB
Deshondre Pitts (2016)
Miramar, Fla.
The stout, 5-foot-9, 195-pound Pitts had a solid night with a few tackles including one for a loss. He doesn't yet hold an offer but that will change, as he's become a consistent playmaker, displaying good size and strength.
RB
Devonta'e Henry-Cole (2016)
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound Henry-Cole is a scrappy player who goes hard. On special teams, his shoestring tackle on Jovon Durante prevented what likely would have been a touchdown. That play likely earned him playing time later in the game on offense, when he scored a fourth-quarter touchdown on a nine-yard run.
RB
Gregori McCrae (2016)
Miramar, Fla.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound McCrae has top-end speed and he broke loose for 48-yard run. In addition to his speed, he cuts well and quickly and it's likely only a matter of time and exposure to college scouting before he receives a D-1 offer.
DB
Lance Deveaux Jr.
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
The two-star deflected a punt. The 6-foot, 189-pound Deveaux holds five offers and in August stated that Duke is his leader.

I wish our coaches on the defensive side of the ball showed the the same type of intensity and emotion as Devin Bush Sr. You can see it in his player willie williams eyes he's feeding off the coach and believes in him and everything they stand for.... i never seen that type of hunger from our boys except Jamal Carter... before he got here... J Rock has that same intensity in him but he has yet been able to release the beast because he's thinking and reacting instead of doing what he does best and that's ball hawk and put people in caskets..... it pains me to see this cause a player like j rock will be like Oliver Vernon Brandon McGee Ray Ray Armstrong Sam Shields won't develop or Flourish until they get around some COACHING not cor****ting. ....

P.S.

If u ain't noticed D.Link has took his talents to South Beach to ***** with the Miami Mope Squad

This is awesome. I love this Kid, he can play.
Grade: A
