I honestly forgot about that “fair catch”.
 
Under no circumstances should anyone, ever, besides #1 be back to field a punt for this team, save for garbage time.

No, he doesn't need to be out there against FAM.

But when the games matter and/or are in any sliver of doubt, Mali will be the punt returner. Anything else is coaching malpractice. He was 8th in the country last year in punt return average, as a 17 year old. Yeah, he's your punt returner.

That would have been a TD right there.

Plus, I've been re-watching a few games and we had a long rushing TD taken off the books on a ridiculous ref call related to forward progress (Florida game, I think?).

That's two TDs right there on some of the most basic, rudimentary ref calls.

Yeah that Florida one lives in my head (Marty wasn’t even being touched by a UF player when the whistle blew). That game was about to get blown wide open.

We've both been saying that for 10 months, and I promise you I'm not being a homer when I say this.

That game was 13-0 at the time, and we got the ball to start the 2nd half. It was 4th and 1 on their 48, and Marty 100.0% scored on a 48 yard TD run. That makes the game 20-0, and they completely lay down and quit. Remember, to that point, they had scored 0 points, had the ball 6 times, punted all 6 times, gained ONE first down combined in those 6 drives, and had run 21 plays that gained a combined 25 offensive yards.

They had 21 ******* plays for 25 yards, in a half, and should have been down 20-0 with the crowd going absolutely ape**** before they touched the ball in the 2nd half.

Obviously we'll never know for sure, but I will go to my grave fully convinced they absolutely lay down and we win that game about 40-0, you are absolutely 100% correct.

Not just an awful call, but one that robbed us of a legitimately historic humiliation of that chicken **** program. I ******* hate them so much.
 
It’s hard to say our defense could be better when you lose the best end tandem we’ve ever had. Those guys erased mistakes by just dominating. Can our improved secondary and interior make up for Bain and mesi and also Scott gone? It’s possible.

Remember when we got Thomas and Scott in the portal it was “oh a mediocre box safety who can’t cover and will get targeting penalties” and Scott was “Houston transfer who bailed on Auburn and is on a downslope”

as Michael Irvin says -- hope dictates effort. And at 20-0 at that point, they absolutely fold their tents at that point. Im still amazed that game was like 13-7 when McClain had that pick and UF had a chance to actually take the lead at that point. Miami was completely dominating that game physically
 
Been torn on the punt returner situation. I hated seeing Edelman and Welker return punts, because these two launched themselves into everyone trying to gain extra yardage. It was basically rolling the dice on an injury.

On the other hand, when neither of the two handled the football on a punt, it wound up being a fumble. I can recall some mishandled or fumbled returns that aided the opposition back into football games out of nowhere.

I think Toney should be the man up until we find someone who is somewhat close to his ability returning the ball. But I trust him not to be stupid with his health.

We shall see. PR has been a pet peeve of mine with UM teams for years. I grew up watching Kevin Williams. Santana Moss. The GOAT Devin Hester.

When he finally houses one, Ill eat that fried crow.
