Thanks for the clarification. Can we expect any shakeup with Rumph and Smith or is this just characterized as a 1-off.High bidder on Matthews. It's not money.

Tough loss! It's not a money issue. We were ready to pay Matthews top of the market.
It wasn't effort. We recruited him forever as the top priority.
I don't think Cristobal and Mirabal forgot how to recruit offensive tackles, especially after watching Cantwell toss people all spring.
I also don't think it's about playing time. We play freshmen, and even if Matthews played RT (which he does in high school) he could still go Top 10 like Mauigoa and Fano.
So all that leads me to this conclusion: I think the kid just wants to go to Texas A&M. I don't understand it, but I'm not him. These guys are all different. Texas A&M did a better job recruiting him and looks like they'll win this battle. It's a brutal loss for the Canes.
All we can do is take the L and move forward. Consider it the recruiting version of the SMU game. Focus on Olu Olubobola and get it done. Elite offensive tackles are rare, and there is a big drop off to the next group (as we see in the first round of the NFL Draft). This needs to be a position where we continue to spend money on high school talent. Maybe we can flip Matthews back, but that's becoming less common in this era.
I still think we land a Top 5 class. But I also thought we'd get Matthews. So let's see what happens. We've got seven months. Go Canes.
They signed pretty much every 5* DL in 2022, proceeded to lose 5 or 6 games and got their coach fired. Most of those signees (believe it was 8 or 9 total 5*) transferred IIRC. They, along with others, still haven’t figured out that you can’t buy a winning team. Wish the kid good luck and move on to someone who wants to be here.If they do get Matthews, that will make 4 OT commits in the top 100 for 8&4

Didn't half of them 5 stars get caught smoking weed in the locker room? LolThey signed pretty much every 5* DL in 2022, proceeded to lose 5 or 6 games and got their coach fired. Wow,wow, wow, the positive here is the money is there to sign another top OI.High bidder on Matthews. It's not money.
Failure by the staff. He wants to go to A&M because the A&M staff made him feel that way. They out-recruited us.

I agree. I think A&M offered him more than we were willing to pay. And I think we'll be fine. Not the #1 class that the rankings-obsessed fans ********** over, but I'll take a class like last year's every time (ranked 7 or 8).Good chance that is what happened. But if the official line out of the Hecht is we matched on money, I think that raises more concerns. My hunch is that probably is not exactly true and he took the highest upfront guaranteed money.
All these 5 stars and still get whipped in trenchesIf they do get Matthews, that will make 4 OT commits in the top 100 for 8&4
You can't lose what you naever had..Don't forget the Jacob's loss2 of the worst back to back L's in memory. Inexplicable really. No way to spin it. U strike while you up, we seem to be trying to get back with FSU
