UPDATED: Mark Matthews commits to TAMU

D$ says it's not money.
Posters respond that it must be money.

This all tracks.
The numbers we heard for Cantwell last year was 5M for 3 years, the numbers we've seen for this kid is 8 or 9M for 3 years.Almost double,so when Dmoney says miami was willing to pay top money does he mean they were willing to match Tam or they were willing to pay him at Cantwell's level, there is a big difference there.
If he said it’s not money that means it wasn’t a issue

EXACTLY RIGHT!! Last year the top of the market and today the top of the market might be very different figures. If nobody will go on record on what the offers were, reason and life experience says that he went to the highest bidder. Aggie also is such a dump and so weird that anything other than money just sounds asinine.

Agree,if we knew what the actual numbers were it would better explain his decision.I for one refuse to believe he picked them over us if we were willing to match Tam offer, not pay him at Cantwells level last year.

Cantwell was the much more polished prospect IMO. If this kid was asking for 2x Cantwell’s number I’d tell him thanks but no thanks.

Good chance that is what happened. But if the official line out of the Hecht is we matched on money, I think that raises more concerns. My hunch is that probably is not exactly true and he took the highest upfront guaranteed money.

If they do get Matthews, that will make 4 OT commits in the top 100 for 8&4

It's not a money issue. We were ready to pay Matthews top of the market.

It wasn't effort. We recruited him forever as the top priority.

I don't think Cristobal and Mirabal forgot how to recruit offensive tackles, especially after watching Cantwell toss people all spring.

I also don't think it's about playing time. We play freshmen, and even if Matthews played RT (which he does in high school) he could still go Top 10 like Mauigoa and Fano.

So all that leads me to this conclusion: I think the kid just wants to go to Texas A&M. I don't understand it, but I'm not him. These guys are all different. Texas A&M did a better job recruiting him and looks like they'll win this battle. It's a brutal loss for the Canes.

All we can do is take the L and move forward. Consider it the recruiting version of the SMU game. Focus on Olu Olubobola and get it done. Elite offensive tackles are rare, and there is a big drop off to the next group (as we see in the first round of the NFL Draft). This needs to be a position where we continue to spend money on high school talent. Maybe we can flip Matthews back, but that's becoming less common in this era.

I still think we land a Top 5 class. But I also thought we'd get Matthews. So let's see what happens. We've got seven months. Go Canes.
This one hurts, no way around it. I’m disappointed because I really love the staff and what they’ve been building. They’ve recruited well overall, but lately they’ve been missing on the top-tier in-state talent in Florida, outside of Mali, and that’s starting to feel concerning. Dropping this one stings.

I guess you missed, "it's not a money issue".

High bidder on Matthews. It's not money.

I hate the optics of it all. Losing a local 5* kids, a Tackle at that, is a real kick in the balls. BTW, while some may say that being in the ACC had nothing to do with us losing this kid but it sure doesn't help.

No one knows what goes through the mind of a 17 yo. I would rather have people who want to be here see the vision and want the hard work that goes with it. Bell wasn’t 5 star, Cooper wasn’t a 5 star, Rivers wasn’t a 5 star. OL is one position I don’t worry about. Can’t get upset about 17 not seeing the vision. Just move on, and trust the process!!! Thanks For the transparency!!
