UPDATED: Mark Matthews commits to TAMU

The aTm fans have a weird psycho-sexual set of obsessions about being polite and militaristic and tradition-driven. It's bizarre.

They have this new student area that is supposed to honor the military. There were some small signs on the door saying that you should take off your hat while inside.

The only problem was, it was one the primary entry areas for the stadium that holds 110,000 people. And when you have visiting fans who don't know what the **** that building is supposed to be, and are just trying to walk through to get to the stadium, you're going to see problems. I watched some douchebag old Texas guy yell at a Miami fan and yanked the hat off his head.

And, yes, of course you knew it would be some Texas cracker trying to teach a black Miami fan about manners...

I was happy to leave that Stepford Wives campus.
Is TAMU even truly military? Isn’t it more like the Citadel than an actual service academy?
Are these the students who were not accepted into a service academy but just really want to be in the military?
Is there an automatic service requirement upon graduating from TAMU?

It's the same as Virginia tech... it's basically a cosplay, there's no post grad requirement. It's a fancier ROTC

All excellent questions. I believe there was a brief discussion on another thread a few months ago.

Apparently, aTm is one of six universities in the US that are considered SENIOR Military Colleges under 10 U.S.C. Sec. 2111a(f).

The six SMCs are:

Norwich University (never heard of it)
The Citadel (duh)
VMI (duh)
VaTech (figures)
University of North Georgia in Dahlonega (who knew)
aTm

Other ROTC programs are authorized under a separate section of the US Code, but the SMCs apparently have some extra rules. The most interesting one that I noted was that "all physically fit undergraduate students must take courses in military training.". That seems like it would be a very hard rule to apply at a school of 60,000 undergrads, but who am I to judge.

The part that we all SEE is the "Corps of Cadets" at aTm. It was mandatory until 1965, now there are just 2500 members out of 60K undergrads. I found this bit to be unusual, you can be in the Corps of Cadets without being in ROTC.

But, yeah, I find the whole thing to be...strange...

Are they obligated to military service after graduation?

How’d the in-home go last night?

Let me guess.

Miami gave him a lot to think about. This one might be tighter than it looked early in the week. Miami helped itself big-time. It’s still likely A&M but it’s too close to call as of now.

How’d I do?
Gaby need to watch his back with that type of analysis...
